Toughskins R us
Now that I am the mother of 4 lively boys, everyday I realize how much I don't know about boys. I grew up with 4 sisters, and my brother came along so much later, I left for college when he was 2. The thing lately that's been mystifying me the most: What is it with the holes in the knees of every single pair of pants? In my entire life, all 36 years, I can not recall a single time I ripped a hole in my pants. My boys on the other hand can not recall a single pair of pants they've ever owned that didn't have a hole in the knees. Church pants being the exception. I've been buying new pants for Rooney and Proto almost every single month. Experience has shown that expensive jeans only last a short bit longer than cheap jeans, it really doesn't matter. It's not that they're growing out of them, it's that it takes them approximately 1-2 weeks to put a hole in the knees. So then I have a big pile of perfectly good pants with holey knees. They usually have to go to school this way for a few weeks until I get motivated enough to go buy more pants. I am sure their teachers think we are poverty stricken and possibly homeless.
Stick and I were discussing this latest phenomenon, apparently it's genetic, coming from him. He remembered the good old days of Toughskins. Virtually indestructible jeans from Sears. I checked online and sure enough, they still carry them. Although they've toned them down quite a bit since the 70's, they're not quite so stiff and they don't have different colors. They just look like a plain little basic jean. I bought 5 pairs yesterday, on sale for $35, woo hoo! The jeans and the boys went to school today and we will just see how long they last.

This post prompted a lot more thinking that I'll express in this comment area (see my blog). But, MAN boys are so crazy. Seriously little dudes, what's the deal?

I sure hope the toughskins work for you! I tried them with my "little darlin'" and they do last a bit longer...one GREAT thing about Sears is that they let you get new ones if they wear out and the child is in the same size!I LOVED that feature! Now, unfortunately, my boy has out grown the toughskins sizes. It takes aproximately 6 weeks for him to get a hole in the left knee...always the LEFT knee for some unknown reason! Girls are so much easier on clothes! Thank goodness, seeing as I have 3 to do hand-me-overs to! :)

Apparently my girl is a tom-boy because every single pair of her jeans has holes in the knees as well!! This year I got some good patches and as soon as I see a hole I patch it up good, in hopes it'll last longer. So far it is working good!
