memorial day part II

In addition to celebrating Thomas' birthday, we also did some regular holiday things.

The kids mowed the yard.

(Oh wait, that's not holiday, that's normal.)

We lounged around our freshly mowed yard.

We practiced our whittling skills.

In the afternoon we went over to our friends home for a Memorial Day/Birthday BBQ.

They have 6 kids (7th on the way) almost the same ages as our six kids, and our kids think it is heaven to get together with them.

Such fun!

We've been thinking about making root beer for years.

We finally did it!

It was a pretty neat process involving dry ice that enthralled all the kids.

We ate lots of delicious food.

Stick made this fruit salad that tasted as good as it looked.

Rachel (and Stick) made a potato salad that was also amazing.

The kids spent time playing with newborn kittens, jumping on the tramp, hanging from the trees and playing in the playhouse.

Things got a little silly with a leftover glove from the root beer process.

All the kids from 5 to 15 played a soccer game.

Playing in a one acre yard = a fun and sweaty time.

I didn't get any pictures of the game because I was so engrossed in a conversation that covered topics like bikinis, gardening, prom dresses, house repairs, teenagers, etc.  All my favorite subjects!

We finished off the party with delicious homemade strawberry ice cream and birthday brownies.

We had a great time and can't wait to do it again.

Thanks friends!
