summer movie nights
At some point in the beginning of summer I saw somewhere on ye olde internets something about having a backyard movie night. (As you can tell, the exact details have escaped my mind.)
I decided that it would be a fun thing to do in our backyard. Stick has access to a projector at work and we have an old sheet that could be used as a screen.
At first, I was trying to figure out a way to attach the sheet to our swing set or the net around the trampoline.
Then, in a brilliant moment I remembered that we have volleyball poles that can be set up, which could be used for the sheet/screen. (der)
The first time I set out to have a movie night, I e-mailed all our neighborhood friends and invited them over that very same night. Then two hours later the sky turned dark black and the rain and lightening came crashing down.
I had to cancel. (Note to self: Check the weather first next time.)
The second time we did a movie night, I checked the weather and then we invited all the young kids in the neighborhood over for a Mickey Mouse marathon.
The cute kids brought blankets to sit on, we popped some popcorn and all the kids laughed themselves silly at old school Mickey Mouse (via Netflix and my laptop and the wireless that miraculously works out in our backyard)
The third time, we invited the big kids, ages 10 and up. We showed "Cool Runnings" (Disney flick about the Jamaican Bobsled team).
Rachel made 13 batches of popcorn and we set up the sheet/screen. We ran into a little difficulty because it was windy that night, and the sheet/screen was blowing all over! Fortunately Stick was able to engineer it and it stayed in place with just a little movement during the movie.
Stick and Aaron also got involved with the "audio" of the movie. The boys hauled out some old mega speakers that we have in our basement and set them up. Aaron figured out how to wire everything to our amplifier and my laptop and we were in surround sound business.
The movie nights were a big hit and really not that much work.
We will probably do a few more next summer, 'cause (sob) this summer is pretty much over.
