this is what I've been doing for.....forever

I started the above project weeks ago.

Hootis' room.

I forgot to take a before picture, but imagine everything white.

White and blah.

I let Hootis pick the colors and the polka dot theme.

When we were buying the pink and green paint, the HomeDepot lady said, "Do you know how lucky you are to buy this paint????  Most mom's would never allow those colors!"

(Note to Hootis:  Remember those words.)

She helped with the pink and green paint, but I hand painted (by hand people, that's what hand painted means, in case you where wondering.....my hand with a paintbrush in it!) all the colored polka dots, on the border between the pink and green.

We found the above fabric (the bedskirt), which totally matches, after I made the other bed pillows (which only sorta match.)

Hootis made the window hangy dots, with felt, ribbon and a hot glue gun.

She requested the "disco ball" which we made from one of those ginormous christmas tree decorations.

One of my favorite details are the light/plug covers which we "modge podged" scrapbook paper  onto.

Other odd details:

-The daybed used to be cream with gold trim (someone gave it to us) and we spray painted it black shortly after moving here. It has a trundle bed underneath, which is nice.

-All the paint used in the polka dot trim was either free or from the "oops paint" at Home Depot.

-Hootis' name is on the wall in the first picture in cute wooden letters with the matching scrapbook paper, but I scribbled it out in the picture because I'm paranoid/crazy.

-Her computer is not set up yet, because I'm looking around trying to replace the current (really junky) desk..

-I am aspiring to find a small scale chandelier to paint orange (or some other bright color) to hang in place of the current light.  I'm trying to hit DI once a week, no luck yet.

-I was planning on sewing her comforter, but when I found this one at TJ Maxx (on clearance no less!), all sewing plans went "bye bye!"

-The clock on the wall is from the IKEA clearance section.  Do you notice a "clearance/total cheapskate" theme?

So there you have it.

No more white blah.

Be sure and wear your sunglasses if you ever see it in person.

Now, I'm off to do a boy bedroom.

(No pink/green paint will be involved.  But probably lots of clearance.)
