random thursday thougts

1. Although I love writing my weekly letter, between that and InstaGram, my regular everyday blogging is suffering.

2. The (morbid) thought occurred to me today that someday in the future it's possible that I might not be able to type or actually have a coherent thought, so it's a good thing I've done all this blogging. At least I'll leave that legacy. Thousands of snarky and/or kid brag posts. Oh and let's not forget the vacation slide shows.

3. Bekah participated in a 2nd grade Christmas activity at a local bank tonight. She came home SO thrilled that she got to sit on Santa's lap. This is slightly amusing to me because she knows about Santa, but that didn't seem to phase her one bit. She came home tonight, a believer. When asked what she wanted for Christmas, she replied, "Gloves." Santa said, "Drugs?!" "No, gloves!" (Thanks to my friend, C, for this picture.) (She is coveting a pair of fingerless owl themed gloves that have a mitten flap, like her friend H has.)

4. I am experiencing major cooking burnout. I made dinner tonight after considerable grumpy effort, but the last two nights we've had cold cereal and boxed mac-n-cheese. Not coincidentally, Stick has been gone for dinner the last two nights so that helped my burnout flourish.

5. The kids are living it up with all the Christmas specials on TV this month. On a regular day, we never, never turn on the TV after dinner. But if Christmas shows are on? Yippeee! So far every night this week has had a special. Although tonight's Toy Story Christmas was a stretch. I think they may have said the word "Christmas," but that's about it. Nice try, Disney/Pixar.

6. I'm trying to get our Christmas cards done. Last year I determined that I would never get them done at Costco again because they printed so poorly, I had to have them done twice. Even then, they looked dark and so-so. This year I sent the picture to Sam's. The cards turned out great, but then they tried to charge me $8.00 more than the price that was e-mailed in a receipt to me. I had to haggle with the sales clerk for 20 minutes over it. She acted like I personally was trying to RUIN Sam Walton by stealing that $8 from his corporation. Then today as I'm filling out envelopes, I run out. I double check the cards, and there are 175, but only 125 envelopes. UGH. Remind me to skip Christmas cards next year. (I say that every year.)

7. Our picture for the cards is ok. Not my favorite that we've ever taken, but it will do. With Rachel in Provo, our options for picture taking were extremely limited. We took it Sunday after church when it was freezing cold outside. I set up the camera on a tri-pod. After I set up everyone on the steps, I jumped into the group and in the picture I am really sitting behind Stick, which I didn't realize until too late. We posed for about 2 minutes, my mother-in-law pushed the camera button and we took about 30 photos, hoping for the best before we ran inside to the heat. And Harry is pulling a silly face in every picture, so now 175 families get to see his silly face! Whatchyagonnado?

8. Today I cleaned up a large blob of butter off the kitchen floor and then a few hours later, smeared pumpkin pie on that same kitchen floor that had been walked through. We should probably just cancel the new carpet order.

Does this mean more blogging? Yay. As you know, I am in a massive blogging frenzy at the moment. Blogs posted everyday clear to February!!!!!

I had an IDENTICAL Christmas card experience (except the sams part). Everything that could go wrong . . .did. But we just went with it and got them in the mail today. They are far from perfect. . . but they are done.
