life

When Hootis was 6 months old (see above) I was anxious. I anxiously awaited all the forthcoming milestones. Each new step seemed exciting proof that my baby was a "big girl". Sitting up, eating real baby food, crawling, walking, talking.

Yesterday I went to her Junior High orientation. The school is amazing. They offer Chinese, French, German, Spanish. They offer Art, 5 different Chorus options, 8 Band options, Orchestra, Drama, Ballroom dance, regular Dance, Photography, Debate, Clothing, Foods, and various Computer classes. All this in addition to the regular core education classes.

As I sat watching the Jazz Band perform, I'll admit, I got a little teary eyed. How could it be that I was sitting here? Where did the days go? Wasn't it yesterday I was excitedly feeding little Hootis her first meal of Rice Cereal....

Sitting next to me was my girl. Twelve years old. Aspiring to pass the Keyboarding Test and the Pre Algebra test so she can "skip" those classes next year. Telling me she wasn't sure she could figure out how to open a locker. Wondering who would be her "locker partner" next year. Excited about the mutual activity that night. Studying for the Knowledge Bowl competition on Saturday.

The days of Rice Cereal are long gone. It's both exciting and heartbreaking. I guess it's called "Life".

"I guess that's why they call it 'the blues'"...

Hootis is So cute. I hope you're prepared to also beat the boys off with a stick.
