weekly 2014.3.16
Stick and Rachel are making plans for their trip to Washington D.C./New York city/Pennsylvania this week. It's a little hard to know what to hit and what to skip, since they're going to be there for such a short time, but I imagine it will all be fun.
Rachel is officially a member of the CCHS track team now. She's still trying to narrow down what she is actually going to compete in. She's excited for her big trip this week, the last time she flew on a plane, she was about 4 or 5.
Aaron met with a doctor this week who is supposedly the best in the state at Otolaryngology. It's been a year since Aaron's surgery and we wondered if someone who specialized only in ears had any opinions on the outcome of the surgery and Aaron's future prognosis. The doctor seemed to think Aaron's prosthesis bone is doing as well as can be expected and since his other ear has perfect hearing, he should be able to function fine. He did warn Aaron to watch carefully when crossing busy streets because with only one functioning ear it's hard to identify the direction of sound.
Thomas is working hard on his scout merit badges. He is hoping to start his Eagle project soon. (Aaron's is an outside project and got stalled by winter, so he will be starting up again too.)
Spencer and Harry have the pinewood derby this week. Stick has been swamped at work, so despite cutting the cars out weeks ago, there will be a literal race to the finish before he goes out of town.
Rebekah got her new glasses this week. She is thrilled to have a new accessory that is not only pink and purple but has hearts and rhinestones on the sides. (It's pretty much firmly established now that whatever my sense of style is, hers is the opposite.) I told her that usually for kids, the fun wears off after one day and the glasses magically disappear. She made a point of telling me on day two, "See mom! I still love my glasses!"
Friday night for date night, Stick and I went to go see The Book Thief at the dollar theater. I enjoyed the movie. Granted, I've read the book, but it was still great. Very beautiful visually, and I thought it was less sad than the book. Although, (Mom) it takes place in WWII and so, yes, there are sad parts.
We finished off the week with a family outing to BYU to watch the men's volleyball team play. They played UC San Diego. We had free tickets from the Cougar Club. Which technically, the Cougar Club isn't free....but you get the idea. It was fun, but we've been to more exciting games, with better opponents.
over and out.
