weekly 2015.7.12
Stick and Spencer have been at Hinckley Scout Ranch all week. They got rained on every single day but came home happy. Stick is determined to eat well no matter where he is, so he was up there making Angel Food cake and homemade chicken noodle soup (with homemade noodles), among other things. No hot dogs with a can of chili for his group, thank you very much. The boys raved about the food and his co-scout leader told him he’d eaten better that week than he ever had in his entire life. Ha! We are happy to have them home.
Harry celebrated his birthday today with the family, and Friday he had a friend party. He told me tonight this was the best birthday he’s had yet. I had to smile at how cute and excited he was over everything. He’s been one big smiley face all weekend long. I was talking to him on Friday telling him that I totally remember turning 10 and feeling like pretty big stuff that my age would have double digits in it. He agreed that 10 felt pretty old.
Bekah is counting down the hours till Harry’s birthday is over so she can start talking about her big plans for her birthday next month. (We have rule that you can’t talk about your birthday plans until the birthday before yours is over with.)
Thomas and Aaron are getting ready to go Varsity Scout camp this week up at Granddaddy Lakes in the Uintah’s. It seems like our summer is flying by and having family members be gone for chunks at a time is not helping matters.
Aaron is spending lots of time with his buddies. This week along with all the regular hanging out, they also went to Cowabunga Bay and horseback riding. He’s also trying to cram in Driver’s Ed before he leaves town for the rest of the summer.
Rachel had a job interview at the BYU Bookstore on Friday. She came home feeling like she hadn’t done very well. For the first time ever she was actually asked interview questions instead of being hired on the spot just for her good looks and charm, (ha) and she wasn’t quite prepared. Oh well, BYU has lots of job openings right now, she will be better prepared for the next one.
Stick gave a talk in sacrament meeting today and did an amazing job considering he only had about 8 minutes to speak. He was pleasantly surprised to see in the congregation his former Stake President from ID, who set him apart for his mission and released him when he got home from Italy.
Rachel and I went to see the Zac Brown band on Thursday night at the Usana amphitheater. I think our expectations must have been low, because the show was much better than we both expected. Of course it’s always fun to sit in WBC’s fancy suite, so close to the stage. In addition to the fun show, Rachel got hit on by a 14 year old, and she grabbed a free t-shirt they were throwing out from the stage. Then we both touched Zac’s hand when he walked by right behind our suite. That sounds completely cheese ball as I’m typing it, but in the moment it was pretty exciting! (Also, Stick, Zac Brown is about 4’ nothin’, you’ve got nothing to worry about.)
