weekly 2014.9.7

We were in Rockland last weekend for Stick’s parent’s homecoming, so I didn’t get a chance to write. We had a great time. All of Stick’s siblings and their kids are such fun. (We greatly missed the T family.)

Rebekah is her usual spunky self. The other day she was storming down the hall screaming, “I just can’t stand having brothers!!!!!!” She spent quite a bit of time the other day making a sign-up chart for a “Skip-it club” and was then determined to go around the neighborhood signing up all the willing participants. (Skip-it is one of those individual jump ropes that has a ring on it so you spin it around one leg and jump over it.)

Harry has had a cough for a couple of weeks. It started exactly one week after school started, which makes me grumpy because we’ve been completely healthy all summer long. He passed the germ to Thomas and then they passed it to me. Unfortunately I don’t just get an annoying cough, these things hit me like the plague. I’ve been down for the count most of this week. I spent two days barely able to climb out of bed. So things like unpacking from our trip, finishing the laundry I started on Tuesday, meals/food, have been pretty iffy. But we’ve survived and I’m starting to feel better.

Harry is happy with school and seems to be enjoying all his homework, which he does on the laptop. We are working hard together to be more diligent in school. (Which means, that he will actually do his homework instead of losing it.) His soccer team won this week, he had three of the goals. He is currently obsessed with wearing a leather hat that grandpa brought home his mission. He looks like a mini Crocodile Dundee.

Spencer’s soccer team miraculously had a win. To put it mildly, his team stinks. He, being the uber-competitive boy that his is, finds this really frustrating. It will be a long season but hopefully he can learn something from it. His 11 year old scout leader told me today at church how amused he was that during fitness testing this week, Spencer jumped farther, and ran faster than all the rest of the boys. I told him this didn't surprise me one little bit. Competetive is Spencer's middle name.

Thomas and Stick went camping in the sand dunes. They took our snow sled saucers and sledded down the sand dunes. The sand dunes campout is a favorite of all the scouts. Thomas was ordained as Deacon’s quorum president today. He is starting his eagle project application tonight. He’s probably going to help with a project that the church is doing to help the mission age youth in Zimbabwe get clothing and supplies needed to serve a mission.

Aaron is so busy lately. He’s doing his homework at 6am just to keep up. He goes to school, then 15 minutes later goes to work then we pick him up at work and take him to soccer. He had practice on Tuesday/Thursday and a game on Wednesday and two on Saturday. (I’m still trying to decide if this comp soccer thing is worth it…..) He is playing really great, so that part is fun. Aaron was called today to be the first counselor in the teacher’s quorum.

Rachel joined the school girl’s Powder Puff football team. She’s a running back/wide receiver. Obviously she puts the “wide” in wide receiver. (I amuse myself, truthfully I don’t even know what “wide receiver” means.) She’s been having fun with friends, and went to the football game Friday night.
