2014.4.6 weekly

We have had a good week.

Rachel has settled on discus and high jump for track. She was going to run the 800 and the discus but then her coach asked her to do the high jump. She will have a track meet on Wednesday at our high school. She's spending lots of time working on family history and today found a bunch of names to take to the temple. She also designed the t-shirts that our YW are going to wear at Girl's Camp this summer. She is one of two Youth Leaders for Camp.

Aaron had a soccer game yesterday. He came home a little less happy than last week because they lost 9-1. He played really well, but one of the other key players on his team was gone. I think he finally got his first pay check from his job this week so he's thinking of all the things he's going to buy with his big bucks.

Thomas, Spencer, Harry and I went to the afternoon session of General Conference today. I didn't want to deal with the traffic and trying to park downtown so we took Trax. Trax goes all the way to our town now, so Stick could just drop us off about a mile from our house. Since ours is the very first stop, we were the only people on the train for a little bit which the boys thought was fun. We got to SLC with some time to spare so we went over to the Church History Museum to see the Boy Scouts exhibit, which Thomas missed last time we were there.

Once we arrived at the conference center, the boys were amazed at all the hundreds(?) thousands(?) of people standing in line waiting to get in. While we were in line a photographer came over and took about 10 pictures of us. So maybe we will be in the Ensign magazine next month! Or maybe we will end up on the cutting room floor. Who knows? Or maybe we will be in the newspaper, we don't really know who she was taking pictures for. I'm just hoping the boys didn't pull faces like they always do for me when I have a camera in my hand.

Our seats were on the top balcony about four rows from the very top. We could pick out President Monson if we squinted just right. The conference center is such an amazing building and to see that almost every single seat was filled was pretty neat. Back in the very top corner of the top balcony it looked like there were about 30 empty seats, but everything else looked full. I had to laugh because there isn't supposed to be any food brought in and about half way through the session, the lady in front of us pulled a big Tupperware container out of her purse and started passing cookies down her row. I don't know how she got past the purse inspectors with those cookies! We enjoyed the talks and the boys kept commenting on how "comfy" the seats were.

Rebekah continues to progress in her reading, it's pretty fun to watch while she sounds out words.  She spends a lot of time coloring and drawing pictures that often have the sentence "I am a cat." written on them. I'm not sure what that's about. She must have had a growth spurt this month because all of the sudden all her pants are high waters.

Stick is swamped at work lately. He's putting in a lot of hours, leaving at 5am and coming home super late. It's been a long time since he's been this busy. The kids don't even remember that that's how it often was in the old days. We are all trying to grin and bear it. We appreciate all his hard work and dedication for our family.
