weekly 2015.11.29
Well, I guess our holiday week is over. We’ve loved having Rachel home; it felt like our missing piece was found. She is fun and we love her. But alas, she went back to Provo tonight. I will think of her every time I see the knitting she left out in the family room. We’ve stayed up way too late all week and slept in late, so getting up tomorrow will be harsh.
Actually scratch that, we got up way too early today to be in Lindon by 9, for the GrAnders farewell. They gave great talks and we loved seeing our old Lindon friends for a few minutes before we had to rush back to Draper.
So yes, two sacrament meetings, two hours apart today. I expect to be doubly blessed this week. Harry asked me if it was against the law to take the sacrament twice in one day.
Today Aaron was ordained a Priest, our third priesthood ordination in the last six months. I suppose when you have four boys in a row that’s how it goes. Right now the boys are 16, 14, 12 and 10 until Thomas has his birthday next May.
Aaron’s birthday seemed like Thanksgiving. Oh yeah, it was Thanksgiving. I’m not sure how exciting it was as far as birthdays go, but there was tons of great food, and games and cousins until midnight, so it was probably more exciting than a normal birthday at home would have been. He got quite a bit of driving in this week and now only needs ONE MORE HOUR. I predict we will have our second licensed kid driver by the end of the week. (scary.)
In newish birthday tradition, we measured all the kids tonight. (By we, I mean, Stick.) Rebekah is 4’1 13/16”, Harry is 4’10”, Spencer is 5’7 7/16”, Thomas is 6’ 1/8”, and Aaron is 5’ 8 ¾”. (Rachel left before we measured, but I’m pretty sure she’s stuck at 5’9”)
I survived our ward realignment today. They reassigned one small section of neighborhood that only had three active families and then about half of another neighborhood. We will get a new bishop next Sunday, and real soon, a YW and RS president, since the current ones are no longer part of our ward. And whew, we will stay in our same church building ‘cause I am now an obnoxious UT Mormon, who must be able to walk four houses down to the church rain or shine. Not that I ever walk to church, but I want the option.
We got word that the carpet that we ordered last spring is probably coming this week. Of course it is. Why tornado your entire house moving furniture and replacing carpet when it’s warm and summer and not Christmas time? That would just be so boring. If the carpet does come, we will have to decide what to do. The carpet guy said he could hold it until January if we want. So universe, tell me, what do I want more….new carpet in the whole house or a calm(ish) Christmas with you know, a Christmas tree set up?!?!? (FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS are SO HARD.)
Yesterday it was super cold and lightly snowing most of the day. Stick and the boys got up on the roof and put our Christmas lights up and strung lights up our flag pole for our outdoor "tree" which is blue and white (go cougars) this year. I felt terrible that they were doing it just to make me happy while I was inside the warm house and they were freezing to pieces outside. They're too kind to me. At least the outside of the house looks festive, new carpet or not.
