more december
More Christmas, in no particular order:
Somehow we managed to decorate our tree in the few days between Oceanside and Puerto Rico.
(Notice a few dark spots at the bottom? Grrr.)
Stick and the kids even managed to put up our flagpole tree, but we did not put the lights on the house this year, 'cause well.....no time and the weather was not conducive to walking on the roof.
We went to the Christmas Devotional at the Conference Center. The weather was absolutely terrible so Stick drove us up and he and Rebekah watched in the overflow room. Did you even know there was an overflow room? That kids under eight can go in? With comfy chairs? Me either.
Our tickets put us way way way to the side and we couldn't see very well. Stick and Bekah saw it better than we did. Go figure.
We got a new star that I really love. I saw it at IKEA back in October but did not buy it. Then I was sad 'cause I wished I had bought it. So on a different day, when I happened to be at IKEA again* and saw it on clearance**, I bought it.
Yay me!
Years ago it became abundantly clear that I can not be responsible for any type of advent calendar. I'm a little too loca*** in December to keep track of what day it is.
Bekah spotted this little paper nativity (that I made years ago at some RS activity in San Pedro) in one of our Christmas bins and wanted to know what it was. I explained that it was a cute little Christmas activity but that mommy was to nutzo to deal with it. She happily took on the responsibility and faithfully put on a new piece every single day.
Ok, fine, we did one other smallish (really, really small, practically minuscule) advent activity. See the paper just above Bekah's head? It's a little "service themed" Christmas countdown. Each day Harry and Bekah did a service for someone and then they got to fill in a circle on the tree, counting down to Christmas. Also successful, 'cause I personally didn't have to do anything.
I volunteered to decorate two tables for our ward Christmas party. I thought it was going to be round tables, 'cause that's what's been done in the past...... I was wrong. Good thing I have about 20 Rubbermaid bins of assorted Christmas junk, stuff, plunder, decorations in our basement.
Thomas helped me do the tables. No joke, when I opened the bin with all the stuff for the Santa table, I was totally surprised. I had completely forgotten about all this stuff. (Ha!)
This little spray painted macaroni noodle ornament is the cause of arguing, contention, discussion every single year. Every kid wants to hang it up on the tree. I got it for serving in Primary in Walnut Creek in 1997, so it's probably worth good money on eBay.
(Poor thing is missing a few curls! That probably lowers her value.)
As I was getting the last of our bazillion Christmas cards ready to mail, I noticed that Spencer had a plastic BYU sports bracelet on his arm in the picture.
Lovely.
The cards. Although we sent less this year than last.
We did not do homemade kid gifts this year. Mainly because there just wasn't time, what with all the vacationing! Somehow though I managed to make gifts for Harry and Bekah. Ollie Blocks and Ollie Bots. Which probably caused me to lose a few brain cells due to massive inhalation of Mod Podge fumes and E-6000 glue (especially horrible).
(oh look! A picture from my real camera! So crisp and clear!)
And, maybe, just possibly I was sewing rice bags at 11:20pm, for all the kids on Christmas eve....... WHAT got into me this year?!!?!?!?
(Loca.)
*What?!??! It's like 5 mins from my house!!!!
**My favorite price.

A had a star just like that that she was trying to sell. No buyers. Until one day it occurred to me that it was awesome and I bought it! $5. Alas......the bulb broke before we even got it hung.
