Sold! to the highest bidder
In other exciting news, we sold our house back in December. It would have sold in November but the lovely government shut-down prolonged the sale for almost a month. (thanks Obama.)
No, not our current house, our house in Lindon. Remember this place?
The 50 year old farm house on the 3/4 acre lot? Yep, that house sold. It feels weird to not own it anymore. I thought I'd do a little recap of it's history.
We purchased the home mainly for it's large property in 2004. We squished into it for several years, getting ready for a massive remodel/new build.
When we were ready to think about building, we paid a lot of money for these custom plans.
Then we got into a big fight disagreement with the city over how our property, our lot, that we owned in full would be used. (can you tell I'm still a little bitter?) Eventually we decided that we didn't want to fight anymore, but we weren't willing to give in to the city's demands. We told them to take their permit and shove it! KIDDING! (Although I wanted to.)
In order to shorten Stick's commute we bought a house in a different city. A house that was already built. I remember looking at lots of houses, all of them 10 years old or newer, 'cause we'd already done the fifty year old house thing, and well, it had it's quirks. So I wanted something newer. We looked at one house only that was almost 20 years old, and it was the one we bought! Ha!
And we love it. The kids have tons of fun neighborhood friends, I have great friends. We are happy with the schools. Our neighbors and ward are amazing and it's been nothing but good for us in the last four years we've lived here.
As for our Lindon house, the real estate market was so terrible when we left that we decided to rent it until things improved. We had a few great renters and a few terrible ones. We didn't real enjoy being landlords, it can be tricky when you live 30 miles from your rental. The last renters we had, thought they'd buy the house, but when that didn't work out, we put an ad up on ksl.com to sell it last fall.
I put the ad up on a Friday afternoon and within 24 hours the phone was ringing off the hook. I showed it to a handful of people and several just stopped by the house and the renters showed it. By the next Friday, we had a offer! We were a little speechless that it all went so quick and easy. I felt nervous to even get excited because I was sure the sale would fall through for some reason. We had to be patient and then even more patient thanks to the government shut-down. But it all came together, and the house sold.
Our final renters left the house really dirty. I was not amused by this and felt some pressure to clean it up before the buyers moved in. So I went down and cleaned it up.
Now here's the funny part. My parents live next door to the house, and they share a driveway with it, so they can, without even trying that hard, keep tabs on what is going on in our former house.
We waited and waited and the buyers never moved in. My parents never even saw them. Then a few weeks later I started getting texted pictures like this:
Um, yes, that's the oven and the bathtub OUT IN THE YARD.
Then this picture came:
Some kind of robot contraption built out of the water heater.
At this point my parents went over and talked to two 20-something guys that appeared to be working in the house. They are basically demolishing the house to get it ready for a big remodel/build. Just like we planned to do.
I really wish I would have known that before I went over and cleaned! I hope they noticed how clean the carpets were before they trashed them! ha.
They've basically taken everything inside the house, out, including all the interior walls and crammed it into the west end of the house. Then they will bulldoze the entire west end and scoop all the mess up and haul it away. And then, I presume, they will start building new.
I'm happy about it and just a teensy bit sad. We had many happy times in that house. Despite being small, it was a good house, it had a good feel inside. But it will be fun to see what it ends up like. Even though our dream for it didn't work out, I'm happy that someone else's is!

Um whoa. Nice robot on the lawn. Crazy! I am shocked - but not really - that they are rebuilding. Awww......so I assume the lovely little shower will be a goner. Ah, memories. :)
