2014.6.8 weekly
We are two and a half days into summer break and the kids are already bored. Thomas is averaging two/three naps a day. He is working on nurturing his dad’s sleeping genes, if he sits down and holds still for more than a couple of minutes, he falls asleep. We’ve let the kids sleep in and goof off, but those lazy ways will end tomorrow. I know, right? We gave them 2 ½ days to be slackers. Aren’t we awesome and fun parents? I have a whole schedule planned for weekly meals/kitchen duty. Each of the big kids is assigned a day and they are in charge of the kitchen for that day. Everything including emptying the dishwasher, picking out and cooking all three meals and all the cleanup involved. I anticipate it will be shades of awesome and painful for everyone involved!
While getting ready for church this morning, Rebekah told me that she “did not want a clip in her hair because princesses never wear clips, but they DO wear necklaces.” Now that school is out, she is averaging between three to five outfit changes a day. It’s a good thing I love to do laundry so much! Not.
Harry and Spencer both had lemonade stands this week. They made about $30 between them. We have a ton of construction going on one block north of us and I told the boys they could make some serious dough by going over to sell to the construction workers. On second thought though, they’d probably learn all kinds of new words by going over there.
Aaron and Rachel are working full time at the elementary school. They are trying to grin and bear it. They’ll be happy once their bank accounts reflect all their hard work. I think they may have inadvertently gotten a bunch of teachers in trouble. They spent one day, all day, dumping out trashcans from all the classrooms. They could see that a bunch of the teachers were throwing away perfectly good books and jump ropes and playground balls. So the kids asked their boss if they could snag some jump ropes and balls to take home. He didn’t care but said they should ask the principal. It turned out that she did not know the teachers were throwing away perfectly good items and she was not happy about it. Whoops.
For our date night, we went to watch “Non Stop” at the dollar theater. For the most part we kind of like Liam Neeson and we liked the movie, although I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re flying anywhere anytime soon. It was full of (mostly) believable action but some of the plot was a little weak. Whatever, it was a fun date. When we got home we turned on Ken Burn’s documentary on Amazon Prime called “The War” about WWII. It’s 15 hours long and we are only 1.5 hours into it, (well T was sleeping for 1.25 of those hours, ha!), but I liked it. I will warn you though; the whole war aspect means that there were a lot of dead bodies shown. So there’s that.
We attended the Best of State Banquet on Wednesday, but I’ll blog the details later this week.
I had to teach RS today about “The Priesthood” and Aaron gave a talk in sacrament meeting about “Prophets”. We are both glad to be done!
Over and out.
