a tale
(crummy iPic)
It was a day like any other.
A trip to Target to buy a wedding present, along with scanning all the clearance deals on each aisle. We picked up a shirt for Rebekah for $1.98 and she skipped along happily with it in her hand.
As we turned a corner in the shoe section, suddenly the clouds parted and a ray of light shone just ahead of us. Overhead I heard choirs of angels singing "Hallelujah! Hallelujah!" while star bursts of fairies shot through the air. There was even a rainbow.
There they were.
Blue Polka-dot rain boots with red trim and a red ribbon.
Rebekah's exact size.
On clearance for $3.44 down from $23.99.
As she ran through the field of gently moving grass, with her hair streaming out behind her, she dropped the shirt already in her hand and swooped up the boots with loving tenderness.
Still clutching them in her hand, she swayed gently and was then overcome with the vapors.
After I revived her with smelling salts and loosened her corset, she said, "Mama? Can I get dem? I jus yuv dem!"
So I said yes.
We paid the evil troll at the bridge our $3.44 in gold coins, and then climbed back down the beanstalk.
Riding our magical unicorn home, we stopped for a minute to chase the gingerbread man.
We arrived home just in time to stop the big bad wolf from blowing down our castle. Which was a good thing, 'cause a storm was a brewin'.
The sky got all twisty looking and we saw chairs and bicycles floating by. Our castle started to spin, but then we remembered we went to OZ last year on vacation, so Rebekah tapped her boots together three times and said, "There's no place like home. There's no place like home."
And we lived happily ever after.
(I may be watching a leeeetle too much "Once Upon a Time")

We love that show, too. We used to watch it with the kids, but now it's on for 8 o'clock for us, much too late for the littles.
Love the boots! You know I'm a sucker for boots.
