weekly 2014.9.28
Rebekah had her dance recital this week. Every single aspect of it was beyond thrilling to her and we loved watching her in her element.
Harry is sick, poor boy. He always seems to get a sore throat (and a fever) in the fall. Even after he got his tonsils out he seems to struggle. One happy note for him though, is that the Nacho Libre mask we ordered for his Halloween costume arrived. Now I just have to figure out how to make a costume that has a giant bare belly with tights and a cape. Ha!
Spencer is Mr. Social. He has an unlimited number of friends that he is always playing with. Well, to be accurate. they refer to it as “Plang out” a combination of “play” and “hang out”, ‘cause “play” is much too babyish, you know.
Thomas is finishing up his eagle project this week. He’s helping collect missionary supplies for prospective missionaries from Zimbabwe. The deadline for collection is this Thursday when the gathered supplies will be taken to Welfare Square in SLC and then the church will ship all the supplies to Africa.
Aaron is still enjoying soccer although admittedly he didn’t really enjoy his two games yesterday in the pouring rain. He was soaked through by the end of the first game and had to still play for 1.5 hours in more rain for game #2. At least they won both games! He is still working hard on the family history committee in our ward and hardly a week goes by that someone from the pulpit or elsewhere doesn’t mention his help (and Rachel’s).
Rachel, along with her regular studies is doing quite a bit of study for the ACT which is in a month. We are down to the wire and getting ready for her to apply to BYU (sob). She is also managing to fit in some fun social activities and some driving help for us, which we need on a regular basis.
We seem to be having a first world problem that all six kids need to do homework at the same time and it’s ALL online. Interesting dilemma no? We already have two laptops available for kid use, but we are probably going to have to make one of our desktops available too.
My two projects this week involved taking all the cabinet knobs off in our kitchen and some shopping. It’s been on my to-do list for ages to scrub the cabinets clean because holy-moly they need it. That somehow evolved into taking off all the knobs with the intent of painting them, ‘cause I’ve hated those gold knobs for five years. I knew there were probably a lot of knobs, but I didn’t really think there were going to be 44. I surely don’t want to spray paint 44 knobs, it would be a huge pain. A quick internet search told me I could buy 50 new oil rubbed bronze knobs for $42, and that sealed the deal.
The new knobs arrived Thursday, but I haven’t scrubbed the cabinets yet, or replaced the knobs because I got distracted by project number two. We decided to sponsor a sister missionary from Zimbabwe in relation to Thomas’ eagle project. Basically this means that we provide a suitcase and fill it will absolutely everything the sister will need to serve a full time mission: clothing, shoes, towels, sheets, scriptures, etc. Friday, I went to DI and spent several hours looking for the required seven outfits. They had very limited dress options so I ended up buying 7 skirts and about 10 shirts that match, plus pj’s and a jacket. I miraculously found three pairs of quality leather shoes that were virtually brand new, (even though just looking at the used shoes sort of gives me the dry heaves). It was pretty fun in an odd sort of way to put together the outfits and think about some cute future missionary wearing them. I need to buy a few more things, and wash all the clothing, but I will be done soon. While shopping I had the thought in the back of my head that someday soon, before I know it, I will be shopping for my own missionary children. A thought which immediately makes me tear up, so I shove that thought to the back of my head and think about the weather! Ha.
Over and out.
