take a hike

Stick and the kids have spent several of the last few Saturday afternoons hiking.

I fully support this father/kid time.

Especially if I don't have to go!

I don't really "get" hiking.  Why is it fun?

Stick doesn't understand why I don't like hiking.

"You like to walk for exercise," he points out, "hiking is walking!"

I reply, "I like to walk in neighborhoods mainly because I like to look at houses.  Basically I like to snoop."

Snooping in the mountains isn't really that fun (to me) because

if you've seen one tree you've seen them all.  Same with dirt.  Same with rocks.

Really I'm just a city chick or a wimp.

I don't really care what you call it, as long as I don't have to hike.

On this particular hike Stick told me that there was a lot of murmuring/complaining going on.  Apparently it was hot and dusty and all uphill and downhill!

Houdini was the only kid not complaining.

Let me point out that Houdini is the youngest and smallest.

At one point he responded to all the complainers,

"Whatcha wanna do, go home and watch a princess dvd?"

He may be the youngest and the smallest, but I think he'll be just fine.
