2014.5.4 weekly

Rachel had a track meet this week and was happy that she jumped two inches higher in high jump. Stick has a guy that works for him that was the college Mountain West high jump champion and he went over to the high school on Tuesday to give Rachel some pointers. I wish we would have had him go over at the beginning of the track season and not the end! But with his tips she did improve. She almost got a jump that was four inches higher but right at the end of her jump her foot hit the bar and knocked it down. She has her AP calculus test this week and the AP US history test next week. She’s starting to count down the days until school is out. (Me too!)

Aaron was excited to register online for his high school classes for next year. He and Rachel registered to take a “Commercial Art” class together. He’ll be a freshman and she will be a senior next year. I think it’s pretty great that they want to be in a class together. Aaron is also playing on his middle school soccer team.

Thomas and Stick hiked Bear Canyon on Tuesday night with the scouts. He and Spencer’s soccer team won their game 15-2 on Thursday night.

Spencer and Harry, along with a handful of friends walked to school on Thursday for “Walk to School” day. They were glad that it wasn’t snowing like last year.

Harry’s soccer team also won, 14-1, and he scored 2 of the points. We are working with him on being less of a walking disaster. There’s a reason we call him Hurricane Harry. Everything he touches gets dropped in the house, his room and the yard. We spent a long time yesterday cleaning off our back porch and getting it ready for summer while Harry was at a birthday party and 80% of the mess was his.

We are also working on this with Rebekah. Every single item of clothing she touches gets dropped on the floor and then she walks away. I’m not sure if they’re so slobby because of some lack in our parenting or if it’s ingrained in them?!?! Bekah was sick this week for about 24 hours. When I told her she couldn’t go to school sick, she burst into tears. Then she spent the whole day telling me how much she missed Miss Alm, her teacher. She was SO happy to go back to school the next day.

I finished my diet this week. I have a printed out monthly calendar that’s on my fridge. There was a mistake on the calendar and it said that there are 31 days in April, so I thought I had to finish my diet on Friday. On Thursday afternoon, I realized the last day of April was Thursday, I was really, really, really happy. On Friday, I ate normal food for the first time in two months. Nothing overly crazy, but some milk, cheerios, bread and a piece of cheese (on a sandwich). To be honest, it made me really, really sick. Saturday was a little better, and today I seem to be fine.

I’m glad I tried the diet, even though it was really hard. Especially at the end. I’ve been sick for more than a week and when you’re sick, it’s pretty hard to crawl out of bed to go prepare fruit smoothies and vegetables. But now I know that it didn’t work for me and it made me lose 19 lbs. I don’t know if I continued the diet, if I would continue to lose weight or if it would level out at some point, but I don’t feel like I can afford to find out. I can slip off my pants now without even unbuttoning/unzipping them. The good news is that today I was able to wear my grey Shabby Apple dress that I can only wear when I’m super skinny. I am amazed that I was able to have such self-control over the two months. Yay me, I can do hard things! Ha.

Stick went over to the middle school and taught about Engineering for "career day" for four hours on Thursday. He handed out all kinds of WBC swag like t-shirts, pens, pencils, Frisbees, etc. He enjoyed the experience.
