homecoming 2014 pt.II

The big day!

Usually these dance dates last a whole day and there are multiple activities with a whole group of kids involved, and in my opinion, it gets really out of hand.

Part of the reason Taylor asked Rachel so late was that he couldn't find a group to join. Finally he just decided to skip the group and just go. It just so happened that our ward YM/YW were going boating Saturday afternoon, so that became their pre-dance activity. In a way, our ward was their "group". Ha! The only downside was that suddenly the entire ward knew they were going to Homecoming together. All the kids and all the leaders. They'd broken a long standing unspoken rule in our ward that the kids don't date each other. (I personally think it's a dumb rule and I'm glad they broke it.)

So they spent the afternoon boating and then came home early. Rachel's stylist said she needed 1.5 hours, which both Rachel and Taylor thought was crazy. But what-a-ya-gonna do? All the hair and makeup has been completely new territory for Rachel. She's more of a keep it simple type of girl. Even once she was all done up, she felt like she had way too much makeup on, but I told her it looked pretty.

Quick shots taken as Taylor was walking up the sidewalk to ring our doorbell and Stick was running to put his gun on his belt so he could answer the door. (He suggested it and Rachel laughed and said yes.)

Not a very good shoe picture, but they are really cute and she can wear a heel because he's quite a bit taller than her.

I didn't see Taylor's face when Stick opened the door with a gun on his belt, but the kids say he looked pretty surprised. His parents who had come over to take pictures burst out into laughter that I could hear from our kitchen. And just to keep the ward fully involved in the date, our YM's president just happened to be walking by at this exact same time, so he joined in the laughter.

We totally staged this picture, but it's still pretty funny.

When we started taking the initial pictures these two were really standing this far apart, both looking extremely uncomfortable. We teased them a little and then Rachel stuck out her arm and told us that our bishop told them to stay an "arm's length apart".

Then they were off. They went out to eat (Sushi), went to the dance, tried to go bowling but it was packed and no lanes were open, so they just played games instead.

She came home happy, happy, happy with the whole experience.

After the date was over, they ended the night by texting each other how fun it had been, and he texted her to say she looked "stunning".

Aww, so cute. She did look stunning!

I'm glad you had fun, my girl.

(Now, we have ten dresses that need to be returned!)

I love that pic with T and the gun! So awesome. Also, even though its way more makeup than she's used to it looks fantastic and very natural looking. Well done hair and makeup girl!
