Hawaii: day 8
12.31.2014
We intended to get up for a sunrise hike to Makapu'u lighthouse. But we didn't quite make it out of bed in time. Instead we ate breakfast on the super sunny back deck.
We finally left for our hike at around 10am. The trail head was only a few miles from our house but we had to turn around and come home. It was packed with not a single parking spot to be found.
The kids were not disappointed. They just wanted to be on the beach all day, so it worked out nicely for them.
I had both my phone and my big girl camera out today, so just a warning, lots of pictures to come....
Coconut bowling. It's a Hawaiian thing you know....
(not really)
These strange little pine cones were on the beach under the trees.
Bekah wants me to say that those pine cones hurt your feet. They're pokey.
I would agree with her assessment.
Scroll through these next three pictures quickly for a laugh.
Stick and the biggies headed down to the north end of the beach in search of better boogie boarding.
And, hey! look! Other people on the beach.
In the afternoon a cool wind started blowing.
I still wanted to be outside but the wind was making me cold. So I went up to the yard and set up the hammock and the gate so I could still see the beach, but the cement walls protected me from the wind.
I spent hours here napping and reading a book.
The last Hawaiian sunset of 2014.
At dinner that night Bekah told me her mouth was hurting. I took a look inside and sure enough she had huge canker sores on both sides of her mouth. We then realized that she had single handedly eaten the majority of a 48 pack of "Fruit Roll Ups." (A treat that we buy for beach trips that we don't usually have at home). It turns out if you eat 30+ of those, you will get HUGE canker sores in your mouth. She spent the rest of the week super sad because we made her lay off the candy so she could heal. She kept telling us that her "crankers" really hurt, which was hilarious.
We finished off the night with movies and at midnight the sky lit up with tons of fireworks all over. We heard them non-stop for about 45 minutes. It reminded me of Ecuador.
Happy 2015 from the very last state to celebrate!
