back to school pix 09
We've had three "first day of school" mornings this week. The first grader finally started for real this morning. He looks a little excited, don't you think?!?!
These two started yesterday.Rooney was his usual happy/hyper/excited/it's gonna be great! self.
He came home completely thrilled with his day, naming lots of new friends.

Proto was his usual self, meaning: worried/scared/not that excited. (Don't be fooled by the smile!). He's so quiet, it's harder for him to make friends, and he's been worried about it since we told him we were moving.
I happened to be at the school yesterday and saw Proto out at recess, walking all alone, looking pretty miserable. Enough misery to yank my heart out and stomp on it. I managed to get his attention from the parking lot and he walked over to see me. Right as he got to me, a cute little brown haired boy intercepted him and said, "You don't look like you're having very much fun. Do you want to play four square with us?" I could have jumped over the fence and kissed that boy on the spot. What an angel! Proto happily went along to play and my heart felt mostly better.
He came home happy.
** Just for the record: I have traditionally always purchased a nice, normal looking golf shirt for the first day of school, insisting that the boys wear it. They begrudgingly comply with my demand, then roll the shirt into a wad, stick it in the far dark corner of their dresser and I never see it again. This year I decided to skip the battle and save the money! What a nice mom, who only gritted her teeth a little at their choice of first day of school shirts.

Hootis started on Tuesday as one of 1400, 7th graders. She's enjoyed the experience so far, but in true Hootis fashion, has expressed a few opinions.
1. "Lockers aren't nearly as fun as I thought they would be."
2. "This feels like a big city school." After telling me about the punkers, Goths and other assorted colorful characters in 7th grade.
3. "The girls are all really into fashion and wear a lot of makeup". (She's been given permission to wear makeup, but is declining the pleasure so far.)
4. "I am the ONLY 7th grader in Algebra in the WHOLE school!"
She went on yesterday to be the only one in Algebra class to answer the teachers questions, showing up the 8-9th graders in her class.
You go girl!

Couple of things: I SO wish Proto and S. could be in the same class! Then they could be buddies right of the bat. Thank goodness that boy was so nice! Mrs. W is still asking about Proto....is he having school lunch today? ha ha
Where does Rooney get his confidence?? :)
Hootis is too cute to bother with makeup. Goths? Punkers? 7th grade! Oh my.
I LOVE algebra. By far the best subject, ever. Way to go Hootis!
Reb looks like she's gunna fly away with those cute wings growing behind her ears. :) Happy birthday teeny girl!
