weekly 2015.5.17
Our ward was scheduled to have the Father & Son’s Campout Friday night but the weather has been so terrible all week, they cancelled it. Stick and the boys decided to take a road trip instead. Right after school on Friday they hit the road for Yellowstone, picking up grandpa in ID on the way. They had a fun time, although it was a lot snowier than they expected. They saw antelope, bears, bison, elk, cranes, geese, ducks, the mud pots, and a few small geysers. The bridge to Old Faithful was out, so they missed it. They stayed one night in a hotel, and went swimming and had a hotel breakfast the next morning. So it was a fun but really quick trip, they came home this morning for church.
Rachel, Bekah and I had “Girl’s Night” here at home, although it was more like “Girl’s weekend” this time. I have had a massive head cold since Thursday night, so our festivities were pretty low key this year (and Rachel had to work). We ate out a few times but mostly stayed home and watched movies, the new “Annie” and “Alexander’s no good…” with Bekah. I could not believe how awful Cameron Diaz was as Miss Hannigan, seriously the worst acting ever. I realize no one could ever compare to Carol Burnett’s performance, but still, Cameron was so awful.
After Bekah went to bed, Rachel and I had a massive “Call the Midwife” marathon. Such a great show, we had a hard time turning it off and going to sleep, sometime after 1am this morning. I love being with my girls. I have to laugh when I think about what polar opposites they are. Bekah was disappointed that for “Girl’s weekend” we did not all get our ears pierced, buy a karaoke machine to sing to, or get facials. I have no idea where she gets these ideas.
Bekah spent some time this week listening to the soundtrack to Wicked. At one point I noticed she was listening to the song, “Popular” and writing down the tips mentioned in the song to be “Popular”. We then had a chat about what the song was really saying. Oh my, she is such a crack up.
In Cub Scouts, Harry made me a mother’s day gift of a pot that had Forget-me-not seeds in it. They are all growing in my sunny kitchen window, so he’s happy.
Spencer did the first part of try outs for a summer soccer comp team on Thursday. The second half of try outs will be this week. He told me he did awesome and definitely was the fastest runner. He said he could have run even faster if he didn’t have to go to the bathroom so bad. Ha!
Thomas is looking forward to his birthday next week. He says he’s ready to quit being Deacon’s quorum president ‘cause he’s sick of going to all the meetings. (Welcome to church leadership, buddy.)
Aaron was happy with his AP Human Geography test on Friday. (Allie, anyone can take AP at our school, lots of freshman do it.) He says it was easier than he expected it would be.
Rachel is ready to quit school now that all her AP’s are done. I think we call this Senioritis. I told her I’m sure she can hang in there for three more weeks. Even though they are already wasting time at school and watching movies during class.
Our family went to the Payson Temple Open House on Wednesday night. The temple is incredibly beautiful. Although I felt like we sort of had to run through the entire thing it was so busy. I would have liked to linger a little to check out the decorating/interior design details. I suppose we can just go sometime and do a session so I can snoop better.
Over and out.
