proud parenthood

It's that time of year when first graders do lots of Christmas themed school work. First grade is a good place to learn reading, writing, spelling, and bad words. The topic of bad words has come up quite a bit lately. Brick comes home and reports to me a bad word, checking in to see if it really is a bad word. Surprisingly enough, most of the time it is.

Back when Hootis was in first grade she once told me that, "the naughty kids on the bus where saying the "S" word." Which, turned out to be stupid, to my relief.

Oh how I wish we were still dealing with stupid!

Imagine my surprise to see this written at the top of Brick's school work yesterday!

In his defense, one of his school friends was discussing this word with Brick and wanted to know if it really was a bad word. Brick was a little unclear if they were talking about the same word, so he wrote it down on his school work to clear up any misunderstandings. He then finished his coloring and glueing, and turned the paper in to his teacher. Cute innocent boy, poor unsuspecting teacher.

I especially like how his teacher put, "not at school" and a smiley face next to it. As if to say, go ahead and talk like a sailor at home you little foul mouthed 6 year old, but keep it under wraps at school.

Yes, a proud moment in parenthood.
