2015.12.6 weekly
As I type I can hear my two big boys downstairs horsing around. I’m not sure what they’re doing since they’re supposed to be in bed, but hearing their deep manly voices is so strange sometimes. For all these years, I could always recognize when Stick was home because I’d hear his voice and it was the only deep one around. And whether or not I was looking directly at Stick I could identify him, even in my peripheral vision, ‘cause he was the biggest person in the house. Now, we have two other deep voices and three big ol’ boys that are gaining on Stick by the minute. It’s unsettling. And fun.
We had a fun afternoon with our kid’s friends Romney and Sam Cope who have moved but visited our ward today. They came to eat dinner with us after church and stayed to visit and watch the Christmas devotional. It felt just like old times having them over and we wish they’d move back.
We set up our Christmas tree after the devotional was over. We don’t have any of the tree decorations up yet, but it’s a start. The boys also set up a toy train under the tree and frankly they were much more excited about the train than the tree. And Bekah spent most of her time dancing rhythmically through the room to the Christmas carols. But the tree is up!
Harry is about the burst with joy over BYU playing the U in the bowl game this month. He even made a paper countdown calendar to mark the days until the game. He has big expectations that BYU will win and he told me he can’t wait to rub it in to his Primary teacher.
Aaron got his final driving hour done yesterday and will get his driver’s license tomorrow morning at 7am when the DMV opens.
Harry’s basketball team (with Stick coaching) started practice this week, so he’s in 7th heaven. Spencer’s team had their first game Saturday night and it was pretty dismal. They did much better the 2nd half, so hopefully they’ll get into the groove sooner rather than later. Basketball season is always fun, although I do need to submit a complaint to the universe that Spencer’s team, in which Stick is the assistant coach, has practice every Friday night for the next 7 weeks and games every Saturday night. Goodbye date night.
We saw Rachel for about 3 minutes last night when she showed up at our house with her roommate and two boys. It was really unexpected. The doorbell rang around 10 pm, Aaron answered it and the BYU kids all sang a Christmas Carol to him, which he thought was super awkward. I was downstairs sewing, and just figured it was another one of Aaron’s friends coming over to play games. Then all of a sudden Rachel was in the sewing room talking to me. I went upstairs, met the two boys and then they all left. We gave them a pumpkin pie and spray cream for the ride, ha! Today she explained to me that her ward had gone to temple square to see the lights and they stopped here in Draper on their way back to Provo, just for fun. Let’s just note for the record that the two accompanying boys are not in her ward and she also spent Friday night with her boy. Or the boy that was with her. Or however you want to explain him. (I’m gonna need therapy. Stat.)
Over and out.
