Oceanside 2012-shell power, black sand and wildlife
In addition to sitting on the beach all day, doing nothing but stare at the waves, we do get up and take the occasional walk up and down the beach.
While walking, you see shells.
The kids are physically are unable to pass a shell without picking it up and saying, "Look mom! A shell!"
And then claiming it as their own.
Repeating this scenario 8,429 times over the course of the week.
At first, you feel superior in your ability to pass by shells, knowing that they are just shells, a dime a dozen, and what would you possibly do with them?
But eventually the power of the shells overcomes you, and you feel the urge to pick just one up, 'cause it's pretty.
And then before you know it, you have an entire collection of pretty shells that you plan on taking home.
It happens every single year.
This year was stellar for shell collecting.
We found so many pretty ones, in styles we've never seen before. Even grandma had to give in to the power of the shells.
There were also all kinds of ribbons of black sand that we've never seen before.
We also see lots of wildlife while sitting on the beach.
See the dolphin below, compliments of my zoom lens.

I love(d) collecting shells. I couldn't believe how my boys had NO interest in collecting them when we were there (2 years ago).
