weekly 2015.7.26
We have had a wild week and I’ve been really lazy this afternoon trying to recover from all the partying!
Rachel leaves for BYU one month from today. Wah. She did not get the job at the BYU bookstore; she was told she was one of 18 applicants. Hopefully something will work out this week.
Aaron spent a lot of hours in summer school Driver’s Ed this week trying to finish up his necessary hours before he goes out of town for the three weeks left before school starts. He and the other three boys went to Idaho last night and will be there for the next two weeks, helping grandpa replace his roof. I hope they work hard, have lots of fun and don’t break a leg (or anything else) by falling off the roof.
Things here today have been very quiet. Nothing has been flying through the air, and no wrestling either. The boys must be gone.
On that same note, we are wondering how the yard is going to get mowed and who is going to do all the cleaning jobs tomorrow and who is going with Rachel to clean Stick’s office?!?!?!? Come back boys!
We’ve spent the last few days up in Eden. Spencer had a tournament so we decided to get a condo and make a mini-vacation out of it. Eden is so pretty, I always love it up there. The condo was great; we had fun swimming and also got in a few rounds of mini-golf. We brought tennis rackets but ran out of time. Spencer’s team did so-so in the tournament but he did awesome. He had two games on Friday and scored two points in each game.
Yesterday we met Stick’s family at Pineview Reservoir which is about 10 minutes from our condo. Such a fun day of cousins, water, treats, visiting, sun, and sand. We’ve done this a few times before but this year was especially memorable due to the holiday weekend. The reservoir was very crowded. We had a rowdy bunch of drunks on jet skis on one side of our group and then at one point in the afternoon a bunch of Latinos walked just past us in white or purple graduation/choir robes and held multiple baptisms right in the lake, (with a bunch of boats and jet skis in the background!). We could not stop staring, even though we were trying not to be rude. And then there was the lady that asked to borrow a sharp knife to do an emergency swimsuit removal….I won’t go into the details here, you kind of had to be there but, bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha! That reminds me, Stick- go wash your knife.
We appreciate the T family for providing 95% of the water toys. And thanks to Auntie P for letting the entire family use her brand new birthday paddle board. Including me! I had serious doubts that I’d actually be able to do it. My balance is not what it used to be (thanks MS) but after several tries and several dunks into the lake I was able to get up. I hope you understand my dedication to this effort because I do not like to swim in lakes. I feel pretty sure that I spent more time in the lake yesterday than in my entire life combined. I also tried the kayak and I’m not sure how I managed it, but I sat down in the kayak and 14 seconds later I was in the lake, tipped over. I still don’t know what happened. For the record, lake water tastes gross. (I did successfully kayak on my second try.)
We went to a missionary homecoming this morning, the son of one of Stick’s co-workers. After being inactive all through middle school and high school, he then decided to serve a mission. He was called to serve in Novosibirsk, Russia. We loved hearing his talk today and especially his testimony in Russian. I thought it was interesting that he said he spent more of his time teaching members than investigators.
Over and out.
