Hawaii: day 2
12.25.2014
Christmas day in Hawaii is pretty great, even if it didn't feel very Christmasy.
We got up and took a walk while Stick made breakfast.
On our walk back to our house we could smell the bacon cooking from way down the beach. After eating a fantastic meal (have I mentioned what a good cook Stick is and how incredible it is that he cooks all the meals on our vacations?!?!?!?) we read Luke II and did the nativity, Hawaiian style.
Please notice the band holding Rachel's towel on, and the wise man offering a coconut (fresh from the beach).
Harry volunteered to be Vanna for my shots showing the view from our porch to north, south and the middle.

We spent the rest of the day just enjoying the beach.
We saw this guy show up with this neat boat/kayak/canoe? thing and a fishing pole. He would paddle out so far we couldn't see him and then eventually come back. I couldn't tell if he had caught a fish or not.
I think I already mentioned the surprising lack of shells.
Below is an example of the shells that Bekah was so thrilled to find.
(She clearly can't remember the shells in California.)
The exquisite shell collection below, all lovingly collected by cute Bekah.

At some point that afternoon, this Asian guy with a skim board showed up.
He was incredible! He would stand on the shore for a long time waiting for the perfect wave configuration, then throw his skim board straight out into the waves and ride them just like a surfer. He inspired Harry to practice his skim boarding, but alas all we had were boogie boards. He still managed pretty nicely.
The Asian guy saw Harry boogie-skimming and offered to let him use his real skim board, but Harry declined, feeling shy.
Bekah also decided she was going to "surf". She very seriously stood just like this for ages, telling me that she was waiting to "catch a good wave."
Ha! Little surfer girl.
Once a good wave came, she totally "caught" it as exhibited below.
At the end of this day we were all still in a little bit of shock.
It was hard to believe we were in Hawaii, and that the water was so warm and that the beach was so incredibly beautiful.
Merry Christmas!
