gayla, gala, goola

Stick called home last Monday and asked, "Do you want to go to the Governor's Gala on Friday?" I replied, "the WHAT?" He explained, "Some kind of fancy party with Governor Herbert." "Sure," I replied, "why not". After he e-mailed me the invitation, the panic started to set in. Black Tie requested, it said. I have a few really nice dresses from past events we've attended, but after a quick Internet search, I realized Black Tie means floor length dress for women, Tux for men. I quickly called back, "Did you already RSVP?!!?!? We can't do it! I don't have any floor length gowns!" Too late. We were officially in. A few crazed days of shopping later, I was ready to go. Stick got a tux too, and only grumbled a little.

We were invited to the VIP reception before the real event, and got to take a picture with the Governor, his wife and the Lieutenant Governor and his wife. Two thoughts on this, one, it's really cheesy, what in the world do you do with a picture like this? Two, why not? It's not every day you take a picture with high(ish) government officials. Three, that dude is really short. Ok, fine, that's three thoughts. Note to self, next time you take a picture with a high(ish) government official, don't make hand into a fist like you may just deck someone at a moment's notice.

Before the meal Stick worked the crowd like a seasoned politician. We didn't think we'd know anyone there, it was a pretty schwanky event. The minimum amount paid to attend was $500.00 a plate (We attended on WBC's tab! Do you really think we'd pay that much??? No way man.) It turns out though, that Stick knew a lot of people, he's becoming quite a mover and a shaker. I had to laugh though, because three different people told him, "Man! You clean up nice!" I guess they're more used to his construction worker look.

After a really nice meal, there was entertainment, in the form of a "song and dance show" featuring local talent like Alex Boye, Carmen Rasmusen Herbert, Steve & Lisa James and lots of the DelGrosso family (dancers). They did numbers from Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, The Wizard of Oz, Young Frankenstein and Thriller plus a few more that I didn't really know.

It turned out to be a really fun night. Now I just have to decide where to hang our "standing with the Governor picture!"

"All that tall lady will box us all, help!!"

Well, at least your eyes weren't closed like that other lady. Oh, and I can't believe Stick volunteered to wear another "penguin suit".

Oh, just had another thought. As you can guess, I would love to go to a VIP gala. So jealous.

Um, as you can guess......this all sounds like COMPLETE TORTURE to me!! I am glad it all was fun for you though and I think your hair/makeup/walmart bracelet/shoes/etc all turned out fabulously. Especially your fist. Nice touch.
