State Debate Tourney 2013
Thomas and his cute partner Rem (Remington) competed in the State Debate tournament last week.
Thomas wasn't feeling well, he'd been up all night with a sore throat and a fever, but he didn't want to miss the tournament, so I loaded him up on Tylenol and sent him on his way.
They don't allow cameras during the actual debating, which successfully eliminated my plan to video him in action.
Before they handed out actual awards, they had a raffle for all the participants.
Thomas was about the 5th name called, proving once again, that he is his father's son. (I'm convinced that Stick is the luckiest man alive.) Thomas chose a giant bottle of lemonade.
Then the actual awards were presented. There are probably over 200 students that participate in the tournament. About 10-15 were presented individual awards for "excellence in speaking." Thomas got one! (I thought he did great, but I know I am biased.)
Afterwards a complete stranger happened to be leaving the building at the same time as us. She said to me, "I thought he totally deserved that award. I saw him compete and I never saw a kid so calm and collected. Just standing there with his hands in his pockets and presenting his argument. Impressive!"
The team from our school.
The girl and the tallest boy won 5th place for the affirmative argument.
I asked Thomas on the way home if he was going to continue his illustrious debate career in High School, since he's so good at it.
He said, "No."
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
