weekly 2014.9.21

I got a very sad phone call from the school secretary on Wednesday. Bekah had some kind of collision with another first grade boy at recess and the top of her head was cut up, from we think, his teeth. Ick. She seems to think he stepped on her head but judging by the three teeth shaped cuts, I have my doubts. It’s really heartbreaking to hear your child sobbing on the other end of the phone. But it wasn’t really that bad, and she’s totally fine now.

Harry and the kids went to the BYU game yesterday with Stick. They all had fun but say it was “TOO HOT”. Harry wore his plastic BYU helmet, so I imagine he was really hot. Yay for BYU’s win.

I got the following e-mail from Spencer’s PE teacher: “Hello! Today in PE I tested the students on sit-ups. Spencer did 59 sit-ups in one minute. Pretty amazing! Tell Spencer great job!” This totally made me laugh.

Thomas is still working to get his Eagle project all ready to go. I hope he can get it all done by the deadline.  He seems to be growing like crazy lately. It’s a very strange sensation to feel like he is almost looking me in the eye when we are standing up and talking. And, Aaron, Thomas and Spencer all now have bigger feet than me! Yikes.

Aaron’s soccer team won yesterday and they are in 2nd place so far in the league. They haven’t played the first place team yet. He went to half of the BYU football game yesterday with Stick and the kids and then I picked him up (and dropped off Bekah) and we went down to Spanish Fork for his game.

Rachel is starting a club at school. The “Alternative Sports” club. I told her she might need a better name or people might think strange things…….Anywho, it’s for kids who want to get together once a month to play croquet, or tether-ball or badminton or ???? whatever. In other news, she is wishing the ward hysteria/interest in her homecoming date would die down soon. Ha!

We went to the first session of the temple dedication today. Since we have Bekah who is not old enough and our next door neighbors have Boone who is not old enough, we traded babysitting and attended different sessions. It worked out nicely. It seems strange that we only have one kid not old enough to attend, I guess our kids are growing up.

We had a fun but short visit with Grandma on Friday because of no school.  The kids were happy to help dump out all their old storage water, even though Grandma and I were semi-hyperventilating about mice dust and Hantavirus.  My life would be much less stressful if I would quit reading the newspaper and putting all kinds of dumb things to worry about in my mental files. Like mice dust.

Stick wants new pictures to put in two frames on his work desk because the current pictures are about 10 years old. So we enlisted Rachel as photographer and took some shots in the back yard this afternoon. That is a lesson in humility, I tell you. We are getting old. And let’s not even talk about how grey my hair is. It’s weird because obviously I see myself every day in the mirror, but I don’t think we really look at ourselves. Once we see a picture, we think, “Woah, is that what I look like?!?!?!?” Especially when you are 42 and no longer a spring chicken, even though you feel young still. Ugh. Please pass the Clairol.

I know a stylist who does great color...only if you really want to, of course. You're gorgeous either way and not at all that old! :)
