weekly 2014.5.25
Rachel, for all intents and purposes is done with school. This week at school, she watched “41”, “Apollo 13” and “A Beautiful Mind”. The only class she seems to be actually doing something in is art. Lovely. She had her job interview, and while they were impressed that she’s already had a job for two years, she did not get the (new) job. Bummer. I’m glad she tried though.
Aaron participated in his school “Civil War Days” and thought it was pretty fun. I forgot to mention last week that he actually has two summer jobs. Another man in our ward has also hired him to mow his lawn every other week, so he is raking in the money.
Thomas got an award at school this week for “excellence in concept mastery” in art. It was the only art award given out for the whole 7th grade, so he was pretty happy about it. In a separate but loosely related note, about a month ago, his teacher submitted one of his pastel drawings to the district art show. Life was crazy and we were unable to go see it until the very last day. When we got there it was gone. Even though it was supposed to be the final day, they had taken down all the art at noon and we never got to actually see it displayed. (I was not amused.)
Also this week a soccer coach approached us after observing Thomas and Spencer’s game and wanted to know if they’d be interested in joining a team he is putting together that’s based out to the West of us. (He’s looking for seventh graders, and seemed disappointed when we pointed out that Spencer was only in fifth grade.) They’d practice this summer and possibly do a tournament or two and then really compete in the fall and winter. We haven’t decided for sure, but I don’t think he will do it. Thomas doesn’t really want to sacrifice his free time during the summer. It’s fun that he was noticed by another coach though.
Spencer, Harry and Rebekah all have programs and a kindergarten graduation at school this week. For all intents and purposes they too are done with any actual education and are spending every minute practicing for the graduation and programs. School will officially be out on June 4th.
I’ve been sewing like crazy these last few weeks. I was at JoAnns on Thursday and they had cotton fabric for $2.49/yard, so I made Bekah three circle skirts in a few hours. I also planted a lot of flowers and flower seeds this week. Every day I have to go out and observe them and notice their progress. (Crazy plant lady.)
For our date Friday night Stick and I went out to eat and then to the outlets. Last year on the Friday night before Memorial Day we got a ton of amazing deals, so we wanted to see if it would be the same this year. We did get some good deals, but probably not quite as good as last year. I suppose this is our new yearly tradition.
over and out.
