weekly 2015.6.28

We just finished what felt like our first actual normal week of summer vacation: a little work, a little play, and a lot of soccer and laundry.

The kids started “Kids in the Kitchen” once again, where they each get one day a week to be in charge of the kitchen. They cook all three meals and clean up each meal. It’s a nice break for me and they are learning some important skills at the same time. I have to help Harry and Spencer a little, but the other kids can pretty much handle it.

I’m also happy to report that my sewing machine finally seems to be working. It’s been out of commission since before Rachel’s Prom. I just got it back from the shop (for the second time) and used it a little yesterday and all was well. (Knock on wood!)

Spencer had a soccer tournament in Syracuse on Weds, Thurs, Friday and the championship game on Saturday. While I love to see him play, I have to admit that driving over an hour to and from Syracuse got old real quick. His team played the same team they beat in the last tournament final (West Haven), and this time they lost, coming in 2nd place. I have a feeling we’ll be duking it out with West Haven all summer.

Aaron and Thomas had so much fun playing Dominion with the A~ family when they visited, that it was determined the game must be purchased. I told them we could get it for Christmas since we usually get one game each year, but they said that Christmas was too far away. So a quick Amazon order later, and Aaron now owns it and it’s been played a bunch this week, including right now as I type.

Rachel had her last day at Western Gardens last week, since it was only a seasonal job. She’s turned in applications all over town hoping to find some work for the rest of the summer. She had an interview at Zurcher’s Party store, and the lady acted like she really wanted to hire Rachel but she needs someone who will be here through Halloween. I have a feeling it will be hard to find any work that will be willing to take her for just two months, which stinks 'cause she needs the money for BYU.

Harry and the kid next door got creative this week and built themselves a zip-line in our back yard.  All the neighborhood kids have had fun riding it, and I’m praying that we don’t have to take a trip to the ER.

Over and out.
