volleyballers

For the past six weeks, Aaron & Thomas have been playing on our high school club volleyball team. Thomas isn't technically in high school, but the coach didn't seem to care, so we went with it.

Despite adding a lot of chaos to our lives, with multiple games (matches) every Tuesday and Thursday night, it's been a lot of fun.  They have their last regular season game tonight, and then they start a three day tournament.

Considering that our school has only been existence for two years, their team is doing pretty well. Bingham, Riverton and Taylorsville are ahead of them in the standings, and five schools are below them.

Aaron plays the "Libaro" position. What in the world does Libaro mean? Let me just tell you: The libero (lee-bah-ro) is intended to be a player who specializes in defense and serve reception. When the libero enters the match, the entry is not considered one of the allowed team substitutions. When a libero replaces a back row player, it is called a “replacement” rather than a substitution. The number of replacements is unlimited. The libero can replace any back row player (then must be replaced by that same player). The libero can replace any number of teammates in the same game.

Thomas plays the front row.

The night of these pictures they didn't have enough players, so Aaron did not play Libaro, hence this shot of him blocking on the front row.

Notice that the other schools have jerseys on, and we are all wearing mismatched t-shirts? There was some kind of miscommunication and we didn't get our jerseys until last Tuesday. I was a little grumpy about it and may have sent a grumpy email complaining about it. Maybe. Possibly.

But good news! With one week left in the season, we got our jerseys. I want to take the credit due to my powerfully written e-mail, but it probably was just dumb luck that I sent my missive right before the jerseys showed up.

Good luck at the tourney, my boys!
