weekly 2014.8.24
We had kind of a wild week, last week. My old high school friend Kristin came Sunday night and left Thursday morning. Thomas had school all week long, the rest of the kids started on Wednesday and Rachel went to Provo every day to work at the Bookstore for Education Week.
Bekah is thrilled to be back in school. She loves the social aspects that school provides and the learning too. The boys are tolerating school the best they can.
Tuesday night before school started, the YM/YW went boating, which my kids always really love. I’m not sure why they scheduled such a late night activity the night before school, but whatever, the kids came home happy.
Spencer had a happy birthday on Thursday and was thrilled with all his gifts. He is always so thankful and appreciative; he’s been that way his whole life. He had a birthday party Friday night and a soccer game. We cut it really close on the scheduling, and I prayed the whole game that they wouldn’t go into overtime, causing him to be really late to his own birthday party. Fortunately, the game ended 1-0 (his win) and we got home with 13 minutes to spare before the party. We just did another classic old fashioned birthday party with minute-to-win-it games and then treats and a movie, “The Goonies” shown with a projector in our backyard. He invited 8 friends and they were all such nice kids and excited about the party and talking with Spence about when he would get the Priesthood. His one friend, next door, is not a member, and I’m sure he was wondering what in the world they were talking about with that “Priesthood” conversation.
Saturday the four big kids got up and went to Lagoon again because we had 2 more free passes and then we used 2 bounce back passes. Stick and the littles went to BYU to a Cougar Club football thing and I stayed home to clean up the house and do some sewing for Rachel. Then Stick drove up to Lagoon to pick up Spencer for a soccer game that he had in Cottonwood Heights. He would have driven Spencer back to Lagoon after the game, but Spencer was too tired to go back. (Such a nice dad!) The other kids came home later that night and reported that they had fun, but that Lagoon was a total zoo.
Also that night, Stick’s parents came to visit and stayed over because Spencer was ordained at church yesterday. My parents came too and we had a big ol’ mixed family event. And just to add to the excitement, we invited our single friend Ben to eat dinner with us along with a single girl in our ward, Linea so that they could meet. When we first set up the blind date dinner we didn’t realize all our parents would be there too. I worried that it would be super awkward for the two singles, but in the end, I think it helped things out to be casual and just a group event with less pressure. We had Carne Asada out on the back patio, which was fine except for the million flies that joined the party. (I can not stand flies.)
We measured the kids last night and Thomas is my exact height, 5’11’, Rachel was happy to see that she’s gained a little teensy bit and can now say she’s 5’9”. Aaron is 5’8”, Spencer is 5’6”, Harry is 4’9” and Bekah is 4’.
Bekah is happy that Spencer’s birthday is finally over and we can focus on her birthday this week. It kind of stinks to have birthdays 7 days apart, especially when you’re the second birthday. She will have her birthday party on Saturday afternoon. Probably. Maybe.
We take Rachel to BYU on Wednesday. Yay. Boo.
She got the Regents’ Scholarship last Thursday. It was $2250.00 for this first semester and then for each semester afterwards she would get $1250, if she applies and qualifies. She has to take 15 credits and keep a 3.5 GPA to keep the scholarship. Her tuition was due today and she only had to pay $300 because the Regents money went straight to her BYU tuition account. So yay, free money is the best!
Over and out.
