weekly 2015.1.11
It’s been a wild week. We got back from Hawaii on Monday around noon, after flying all night. (We left Hawaii around 8pm, Sunday night.) It’s stressful to fly with 8 people, 6 of them kids, especially when you have to navigate through four different airports, with check ins, luggage, security checks, layovers, shuttle rides, etc. I’m happy to say we all made it and we didn’t lose any luggage or kids in the process. We felt pretty accomplished when we finally made it back to our car safe and sound.
Monday afternoon Stick had to go to work and we tried our hardest to stay awake so we could go to sleep early. I decided to cut the boys hair because they all looked like complete shag dogs while we were in Hawaii. I managed to get two kids cut before I got so tired I lost my will to live. I climbed in bed and fell asleep in about 10 seconds, at 6:45pm.
Tuesday was back to business. School, scouts, sports, etc. I’m pretty sure the best part of vacation, no matter where you go, is to take a break from your normal crazy hectic life. Going back to regular life made me a little grumpy, I have to admit. I had to teach RS today, so I had to get a lesson ready. And all the Christmas stuff was still up and had to be put away. And all the vacation stuff had to be put away, and then we fed the missionaries at the last minute on Friday. At this point Hawaii is starting to feel like it was a dream.
Aaron had Jr. Jazz basketball on Wednesday night, Stick had church ball on Thursday night, Aaron and Thomas had YM basketball on Friday night and Saturday morning. Thomas, Spencer and Harry all had Jr. Jazz ball on Saturday. We are basically eat-drink and sleeping basketball right now. Go team!
Thomas’ game was tied at the finish, so they went into a three minute overtime. With three seconds to go, the other team fouled Thomas, so he got two free throw shots. The boy has nerves of steel, he made both his shots and his team won by one point. He was pretty excited about his moment of glory.
Harry scored more than half his team’s points but they lost, he was devastated, even though I told him that the pros lose sometimes too. Aaron played a full YM game Friday night with no subs and then left immediately for his indoor soccer game where he scored half of his team’s points. (ok, only one point, but still, it was half. Ha!). It must be nice to be young. Spencer’s team also won, but he took a good physical beating from the other team that had a couple of pretty big kids. It’s a struggle but he is learning to handle this situation with grace. It’s hard to be the biggest guy on the court.
I expect that this week will be more of the same! Five more weeks of basketball, and then maybe I’ll have something new to write about.
Over and out.
