battle of the stubborn

This particular boy has been having a lot of trouble lately eating (finishing) his breakfast. He fills the bowl full of milk, eats half of it and then sneaks off to play. I've given him several warnings that this is NOT acceptable, starving orphans in Africa you know.

Yesterday the battle came to a head. I caught him in the act of sneaking off and ordered him back to the table. Months ago we had a battle over "Seven Grain hot cereal" but this was Honeycombs! Unfortunately even Honeycombs doesn't taste good after it's been sitting there for a while, which Brick quickly discovered.

He then utilized his full army of battle tools which included: several other attempts to sneak away, crying, whining, telling me he was cold, telling me his finger was bleeding (it wasn't), telling me his ankle hurt (it didn't), more crying, more whining and several suspicious trips to the bathroom.

I too unleashed my full army of battle tools which included: several swats on the behind, ignoring his whining, crying and hypochondriac attacks, multiple threats that may or may not have included the words starving orphans in Africa, and the biggest threat of all I don't care how soggy and cold and mushy it is, you will eat that cereal or ELSE!

Since he is obviously scared of me, he took a nap at the table with his cereal still uneaten and the battle raged on from 8am until 4 pm. Yes, 8 hours.

Don't mess with me people, I am SCARY and can resolve conflicts QUICKLY.

And I must know . . . did he eventually eat the cereal/mush? Or did you give in?

I'm not sure which one of you is more stuborn. I just don't think I could do that as mother...or a kid.

Wow, you are a force to reckon with!

For all the inquiring minds.....at approx. 4pm when he finally finished 95% of it (with my helpful stuffing it in his mouth while he screamed) I let him be done.

I am proud of you! I must admit, I am like you in this respect. It DRIVES me CRAZY when they waste so much cereal and milk. I see $$$, they see that they are done...
Life is so much fun! They will have this when they have children, I can't wait! :)
