public school (horrors!)
I have friends and neighbors who send their kids to charter schools, private schools, public schools, and home school.
We choose to send our kids to public school. (Gasp!)
My (highschool aged) daughter has come across attitudes from her assorted friends and associates that public school is awful. That kids that attend any of the other options are somehow “better.”
I disagree.
I read an article in the paper today that I really love. It pretty much sums up my thoughts on public school. How to “school” your children is a very touchy subject that people feel very passionate about it. Often times it can’t be discussed without throwing barbs at opposing thoughts. I believe that one of the greatest freedoms our country offers is the opportunity to school your children however you feel is best. We should embrace this freedom and not use it as a basis to malign others.
That being said, we choose public school and we're happy with it. Yes, we've had a few lame-o teachers over the years, but for the most part we've had great teachers and great experiences. I still believe in the public school system.
(Now pick yourself up off the floor from the shock of that unpopular statement!)
The article is found here.

I love it! We just turned down a charter school my little Mary got into, to keep both kids at our local public school. I really like it and believe in it too!

Well, as you know I am a big proponent of public schools and believe that MOST teachers are there because they love to teach and want to help the kids. I NEVER thought about this issue as my kids got older - that they would somehow be looked down upon if they went to public schools. Sheesh! I'm guessing all of those private/charter school kid's parents went to public schools. Oh brother.
Wait, did I play nice??

Oh and um yes, I do realize that my hastily left comment does not take into account many things, . . . .but especially the fact that those private/charter school kid's parents probably DID attend public schools, and that is the reason their own kids do not. I've got jet lag?? Can I still use that?? :)

I LOVE public schools-- no surprise there. Utahans and their insane charter school opinions drive me crazzzzzy!
that's all I have to say about that.
