Rebekah plays and plays and plays. She’s not a kid that can easily entertain herself, so she is always searching for someone to play with. Fortunately there are several girls in our neighborhood. With the exception of her friend S, they are all older than Rebekah. They are all kind and always happy to play with her, and she bosses them around the entire time.
Harry played with his friend J non-stop all week. J's family has passes to our local gym and they invite Harry almost every day to go with them and swim. He had his last soccer game and they won.
Spencer did a lot of reading and a lot of playing this week. He got a 900 page book at the library and finished it in a few days.
Thomas and Stick went backpacking with the scouts on Friday night. They are doing a few one nighters in preparation for their week long coming up. Thomas didn’t sleep all night worrying that a bear would break into their tent and eat them. I surely hope he can get over this before they camp for an entire week! He just read this and is telling me that I’m reporting the facts wrong. He says he always worries about bears when they hike, but that night he just couldn’t sleep. I stand corrected.
Aaron had a big event this week. He is done with soccer but we decided to let him try out for his league’s competition team for kids age 15-18. The commitment is for the next year. The good news is that he made the team! The bad news is that we are now committed to a LOT of soccer for the next 12 months. I had to chuckle a little watching his tryout. The size difference between my boy who isn’t even 15 yet and the boys who are 18 is significant! He was bouncing off those big boys like a flea. I’m sure he is going to learn a lot this year and gain a lot of skill.
Rachel also had a big week. I’m super happy to announce that she got a job at Sonic! Her first day is tomorrow. So if you’re in the neighborhood, stop by and get a slushie. She’ll be the one with the long long legs rollerskating around with a tray of food. The pay is minimum wage, but they say with tips she will average between $10-$20/hour.
I read in the paper that there is a huge moth epidemic because the winter was so mild. When Stick came back from camping there were hundreds of moths under our Excursion. They kept filling up our garage. He went out several times and opened the garage door so they’d escape. In a strange entertainment choice last night he and I watched “World War Z”. Somehow I didn’t know that the “Z” stood for zombies, which is funny. But I really laughed when he came in from emptying the garage from moths yet again and said, “We have World War M” out there.
The kids made dinner today for father’s day. It occurred to me a few days ago that they are all old enough to cook and they should do it as a gift for Stick. They made beef w/peppers and ham w/pineapple and shrimp grilled kabobs with hash browns. It was all yummy and it’s fun to have capable kids. I made a cheesecake with my new spring-form pan last night. The recipe said it needed to cook for one hour. Then when I noticed it was not even close to being done after one hour, I read the comments and saw that it needed to cook for over three hours. A slight difference!
Happy father’s day!
