cchs prom 2015
A little over a month ago, on a Friday night, the door bell rang.
This was found on our doorstep.
She was surprised to say the least. She and Greg have had classes together for years, but she didn't expect a Prom invite from him.
A few days later, she returned his pizza box with "yes" written in pizza grease and cut into a puzzle.
The funniest part of this whole Prom, is that right after Greg asked Rachel, she found out that her future BYU roommate, Maddie, "liked" Greg and had been hinting heavily to Greg, that he should ask her (Maddie).
So Greg, despite being a really smart guy, completely missed all the heavy hints and decided to ask Rachel. And if that wasn't enough, he asked Maddie to go with him to ask Rachel. Oh my. Maddie said "no". Fortunately Rachel and Maddie came away from the incident unscathed, so I imagine they will be just fine as roommates.
I was relieved that we had a month to find a dress and not a few days like homecoming.
We visited two different "rental" shops in our area. One, in Riverton where all the dresses seemed really shabby. The other shop in Sandy, was amazing, and she found a few dresses that she liked, but ultimately she went with the dress that we found at Nordstrom Rack.
This dress was really pretty except for the whole "we don't wear strapless dresses" thing.
I warned her that the chances of finding fabric to match this dress were slim to none. But miraculously, JoAnn's had a really close match.
She didn't want just two wide straps of fabric that covered her shoulders, which would have been easy to manage. (It's a good thing I love her.)
I felt pretty confident that adding to the top and adding sleeves was going to be really hard.
Guess what?
I was right.
It was really hard. Sewing on stretchy, snag prone lace and silky lining material is not my area of expertise. (And my sewing machine is in the shop so I had to use my next door neighbors.)
After several trials using scrap fabric and one completed top that I ultimately decided wouldn't work, I eventually pulled it off.
I mainly didn't want it to scream "homemade sewing job" even though that is totally what it was.
There are still a few areas that I don't totally love. Mainly the lining, which was really difficult to work with. I had to hand sew the top to the dress and the lining was slipping around like crazy, despite heavy pinning. If you know just where to look, you can see the bunchy lining in one spot. I sewed it twice and then decided it was good enough, mainly because Rachel didn't care.
And, she couldn't exactly lift her arms very high. I didn't line the sleeves in the hope that the lace would stretch a little, but it didn't stretch much.
That being said, we were both happy with how it turned out.
Pre-date pictures.
"Seriously, is my date coming or what?"
Corsage/boutonniere moment.
I wish I hadn't stood below these two for this picture, but it was raining (a little) and I was trying to protect Rachel's hair/makeup.
The dance was held at Rice Eccles stadium and she came home happy.
The date was more fun than she anticipated, which is always a good thing.
You looked gorgeous my girl, I'm glad you had fun.
