family

We had soccer tonight. All three boys scored goals in their games. Thomas' goal was especially impressive since he plays defense. Ha!

We arrived at the game in three different cars. Stick, Rachel and I all drove separately. Rachel left first to go to Special Needs Mutual. I left about ten minutes later, when the game ended and Stick stayed after to wait for the boys taking team pictures.

About a mile from the soccer fields is a major intersection/freeway onramp-offramp. It's about six lanes across. Before we even got near I could see police cars and firetrucks and that both sides of the street were closed and oncoming traffic was being detoured.

I instantly felt sick to my stomach. This is the very road that Rachel had taken to go to Special Needs. My overactive imagination kicked in and I immediately started thinking about how much time had passed since she left and how long after an accident it would take for the police and firetrucks to show up. I started texting and calling her. But no answer. Logically I told myself, she's at Mutual and they're not supposed to be using a phone but the hysterical overactive part of my brain wouldn't listen.

The fourth time I called, she answered and told me she was fine. Relief, but I drove home the rest of the way feeling jittery over the whole experience.

Having a teen driver is really great 99% of the time. The other 1% is for the birds.

And then, when I get home, I got a call from Stick checking to see if I had been in the big accident.

Family.

We love each other.

I hear sirens and I always start to panic and think about if E is out driving then or not. Glad everyone was safe.
