Harry the birthday boy

Harry turned nine!

A few months ago I saw a really good deal on Amazon on an Imaginext dinosaur toy. Harry already had this red one below and plays with it often, so I bought a green one for his birthday. You know, so he could have dinosaur buddies.

When the box came, I wondered why it was so big.

Then I opened the box and about had a heart attack.

I guess I didn't read the dimensions when I was ordering.

So now instead of two dinosaur friends we have a parent and child dinosaur.

Whatever.

He wanted to make his own cake, so we made it together. He also wanted to decorate it by himself.  Which is fine by me, because I don't particularly like decorating cakes and he seemed thrilled with the whole process.

Then when I walked away for a few minutes, he put 81 candles on it. 'Cause you know, he's 9.

And, yes, a candle right underneath the plastic balloons melted them.

Happy Birthday my little Nevada Nugget.

I can hardly believe it's been 9 years since we were roasting to death in that junky ol' hospital in Henderson, NV.

We couldn't go to the new hospital right down the street from our house because every pregnant lady in town decided to have their baby on the same day.

Your day.

So they sent us across town to the junky ol' hospital that had a junky ol' air conditioner.

I remember waiting and waiting and waiting for the doctor to show up. And then when he did, he was wearing Crocs, which struck me as strange.

I remember thinking that a 9 lb 4 oz. baby is hard to deliver.

(Maybe that's why I finally gave in and demanded drugs for the next baby that came along.)

I remember falling in love with you the instant I saw you.

You were worth the pain.

I remember that when we left and were heading home, that they wheeled us downstairs to go to the car. Then when hospital doors opened and it was 118* outside, a gush of blazing air hit us like the world's biggest hair dryer, and we thought, possibly, that death might be imminent.

I'm glad we both lived to tell the tale.

I love you my boy.
