weekly 2015.10.5
We spent the weekend in Rockland for Conference. We always enjoy our time there, the company is fun, the food is always amazing and after a quick walk, we can visit Jessica’s grave.
However, Spencer had a soccer game Saturday right between sessions that his coach was worried about Spencer missing. In a moment of questionable genius, we decided to let Aaron get some driving practice in and drive back and forth. In our Subaru. We left Friday night much much later than we hoped, so the majority of Aaron’s driving was in the dark. Did you know that the speed limit grows and grows as you go north on I-15 until it’s 80MPH! Which is fine for people who, you know, have driving experience, but all Aaron has done is drive around his own neighborhood, and one trip to WalMart. Before Friday night, he hadn’t even driven fast enough for 5th gear. So yes, it was a little nerve-wracking. Then we got off I-15 and drove 45 miles in the dark on a county road that has dips, turns, a canyon, and several spots with no lines on the road. Add to that the possibility of wild animals on the road and/or cows. Oh yeah, did I mention it was raining and we need new windshield wipers? It was extremely stressful for both of us, but he did it! Then Saturday he drove back to UT with Stick and Spencer (through a herd of cows), and then back to ID after the game. Sunday night he and I drove home. Whew! I’m proud of him, that was a lot of driving.
Today the kids all went to the dentist. Over a year ago I decided I could not stand to go back ever again to our previous dentist. Then I procrastinated for months and months choosing a new dentist, until finally I texted my friends and got a recommendation for a new guy. He’s a pediatric dentist and the kids all loved him. I hate it when I procrastinate, you’d think by the time I was this age I would face these things head on…..but nope, I’m an eternal procrastinator, especially if it’s something difficult that I don’t want to face. But the good side of that is, that today I feel immensely relieved that we finally went to the dentist!
Bekah had a collision today at school while running to the lunch line after recess. (Our school is trying a new thing this year that recess comes before eating lunch.) Of course she had on a white t-shirt to bleed on, and I had her hair in two braids so it was hard to tell exactly where the blood was coming from. After I got her cleaned up I could see that the cut was tiny, but bleeding a lot. It took hours to actually stop bleeding. Once she recovered from the trauma, her dramatic side took over. For the rest of the day, everyone she met was immediately asked, “Did you hear about my injury?” I got a good laugh because my friend Cheryl was texting me about this very thing, when Aaron came home from work and I got to witness it live as she asked him, “Did you hear about my injury!?!?” What a funny girl. I never knew anyone who enjoyed the drama of an injury quite as much as her.
Finally, I am so happy to report that we have PUMPKINS in our garden! Remember in Lindon we’d grow over 100 pumpkins and the kids would sell them? In the six years we’ve been here we have had very limited success, some years nothing at all. This year we have about 20! I put three out on our porch today and felt so happy with their cute orangeness. I didn’t dare put them all out in case some hoodlum teenagers get in the mood for pumpkin bowling in the next few weeks. We want some to carve! As ridiculous as Halloween is, I kind of like it. Harry is trying to decide on a funny costume and Bekah is determined to be a BYU cheerleader. We will see how that pans out……
