2014.4.20 weekly
We've been spring breaking this week. I’m pretty convinced that the best part of spring break is no-nothing. Not just no school but, no YM/YW, no scouts, no soccer, no soccer practice, no track meets, no nothing! Yay! We did squeeze in piano lessons and practice, much to the kid's chagrin, but they survived.
Monday we just played around at home. I did my usual Monday laundry and the kids played outside most of the day even though it was pretty cold. The trampoline continues to be a great source of entertainment and physical activity. Another highlight of the day was that I sent Rachel and two of the boys to go get groceries at Sam’s. I wrote out a list and sent them along with the card and about an hour later they came home with a car full of food. Best. System. Ever. I’m pretty sure I will let them skip school tomorrow so they can do it again.
Rachel also had optional track practice on M/W/F for a few hours in the morning. She took Spencer with her on Weds. and the three big boys with her on Friday to practice high jump because no other high jumpers were there. When they came home on Friday, Thomas was thrilled to report that he can high jump higher than Rachel. She was not amused.
Tuesday we went to the BYU MOA to see the “Sacred Gifts” exhibit, which was incredible. Everyone enjoyed it but Harry who lost patience after about 6 minutes. Grandma A came with us even though she’d already seen it. After the MOA we wanted to go see the library which has been completely re-done since I was at BYU (long, long, long ago). My book loving kids thought it was pretty amazing and they especially liked the moving bookshelves (stacks). After the library we went over to the Cougar Eat to get ice-cream for lunch. On the way there we passed one student club handing out free cupcakes and another with a big wooden box full of small plastic balls that Rebekah happily climbed into. Once inside the WILK, there was another club with a bean bag toss game going on. By this time the kids were pretty convinced that college was going to be AWESOME! While eating ice cream, we saw our next door neighbor’s son, who is a student, which was pretty amazing considering how many students there are. We did a little shopping in the bookstore and then headed through the Harris Fine Arts Center on our way back to the museum parking. Right when we walked into the HFAC there was some kind of concert going on that looked like some kind of a 30 person flash mob concert, but we only caught the last 45 seconds so we weren't really sure. We then walked around and saw all the crazy student produced art. Right before we left, the kids needed to go to the bathroom and somehow we ended up on the bottom floor looking for bathrooms. We saw a sign that said “Mask Show” and the boys wanted to go check it out thinking some kind of actual masks were being displayed. What it turned out to be, was about 30 students dressed in black from head to toe wearing white theatrical masks dancing around crazily on a stage. Some of the students had two or three masks on their heads. We really got a laugh about that. Such a fun day, beautiful weather and so many hilarious things to see on campus, we enjoyed every minute of it.
Wednesday we went to the Dollar Theater to see Frozen again. Rebekah whispered to me that she was, “Singing the songs in her head, but not out loud.” If you've heard her at our house anytime in the last few months you will realize what an accomplishment this is. She sings the songs non-stop, 24/7 to the point that it’s making us a teensy bit nutzo.
Thursday we went to Wheeler Farm which always seems to be our Spring Break tradition. It was a beautiful warm day and all the animals are cute (and stinky). My friend Kristin from high school spent a few days with us and came to the farm with us. She’s so nice and kind to the kids and they adore her.
Friday we stayed home and played around with the (very few) neighbors that were still in town. The kids all had money burning a hole in their pockets this week, so late that afternoon I took the kids to WalMart for a spending spree. Good times I tell you, I mean, half of Draper went to Disneyland this week, but we went to WalMart, so it’s all good.
Saturday we went to Idaho for the annual Easter picnic. We usually make a weekend of it, but since Travis’ parents are on their mission we just went up that morning, and came back last night. It was a fun day and the weather was remarkably warm.
Today we had Easter dinner at our house with Grandma and Grandpa A. Yummy food and then we watched several of the Easter videos on lds.org. Happy Easter everyone!
