are you tired of my medical posts yet? (I am.)
To continue our ongoing medical saga, I took all the kids (except Aaron) back to the Doctor on Tuesday. For the official record, this makes our third visit in 7 days. Have I mentioned we are still going to our pediatrician from where we used to live, 30 miles away? I decided to just stay with him, 'cause we've had him for years and we rarely (ha) ever have to go.
He decided that Rachel and Thomas had no signs of Pneumonia (I'm not sure I believe him) and Harry and Spencer both needed x-rays, so off to the hospital we went. They had both heard the doc say that sometimes Pneumonia results in a "puss pocket" outside of the lungs that requires surgery. Needless to say, they were both sufficiently freaked out. They were also scared to get the x-ray, but learned quickly that it is no big deal.
The results came back showing that they both had Pneumonia, Spencer's was more advanced.
So we headed home. On the drive, Rachel started feeling worse and worse and by the time we got home she had a 103+* fever and was miserable enough to take some Tylenol. Which is saying something, because she does NOT like to take pills.
Once we got home, I noticed that Harry had a red bump under his chin. He mentioned that he felt itchy and then I realized he was COVERED in hives.
A call to the doctor confirmed that he was probably allergic to the Amoxicillan that he'd been taking for the last seven days. I told them it seemed odd that he could take it for so long, before having a reaction, but they assured me that it sometimes happens that way. So, my poor itchy boy, no more of that luscious pink frothy bubble gum flavored medicine for you. (He's pretty sad about this.)
And then, because all this just wasn't enough, Spencer jumped up and ran to the bathroom, making it to the toilet just in time to throw up. Ten minutes later, once he had recovered he came in to ask me if he could eat some "Chips and salsa." Oh, to be a nine year old boy.
It was about this time that I began searching high and low for a straight jacket, because surely I was going crazy and imagining all these crazy events......
Now today, it's Thursday, and Rachel and Thomas both went back to school. They're both still coughing terribly so I'm sure their teachers and classmates will be thrilled they're there.
Harry is still covered in hives but Benadryl is helping a little. He does NOT like his new white medicine, but manages to choke it down. Spencer stayed home too. If these two boys are still running a fever this afternoon, I have to call the doctor back and we will probably be back at the hospital getting more x-rays!
At this point, our fun trip to San Francisco seems like it was about a year ago.
Waaaah.

Oh my...you guys are having an un fun adventures for sure. :( I didn't not know you could become allergic to that medicine after taking it for so long. I remember taking the "pink medicine" too growing up and never taking pills for nothing.
I swear its the flu shot. You guys all get it and all get sick often. I had it once. Wanted to die from sickness and never took it again. I rarely ever get sick. ...just sayin' lol
