Google Doodle 2013

Back in January, Rachel found out about the Google Doodle contest.

What is that, you ask?

The Google Doodle website says:
This year, we ask students to exercise their creative imaginations around the theme, “My Best Day Ever…” One talented student artist will see their artwork appear on the Google homepage, receive a $30,000 college scholarship, and a $50,000 technology grant for their school along with some other cool prizes!
$30,000 for a Doodle?  Where do we sign up?  Rachel drew her doodle right away.  Thomas and Spencer did theirs yesterday, with 3 hours to spare before the final deadline. Nothing like the rush of that last minute adrenaline to jump start your creativity!

I imagine a ba-zillion kids have entered, but like I told the kids, "Why not?  You're creative and a good artist! You may as well try!"  So they did.

I tried my best to not interfere with their creative process, I made them do everything themselves.

Although I may have had a teensy moment when one boy handed me his finished doodle on a paper that had been folded 12 times.......... I demanded asked nicely that the page be re-drawn on the grounds that no one was going to hand over $30,000 for a rumpled drawing, no matter how good it is.

I'm mean like that.

I'm happy they made the effort. I like the ideas they chose for their best day ever and I think their drawings are great.  In the slim chance that they happen to win, well that would be great too!
