the canyon and other terrors
A few nights ago we took a drive up the canyon and met with Grandma and Grandpa for a picnic dinner.
The canyon air is cool and smells foresty.
A lovely break from the heat at home.
After our meal, we drove a short bit further and stopped at the reservoir.
Within minutes Harry and Rebekah stripped off their shoes and were wading in the mud.
Being the tolerant mom (ha) that I am, I decided to grin and bear it.
After all, it's only mud.
By the end of our visit, Harry's feet looked like this:
Rebekah's:
Before we drove home, I took them over to the water spigot thingy to rinse their feet.
As I was washing Rebekah's feet off, I noticed a little leaf that wouldn't rinse off.
I brushed it with my finger and it still wouldn't come off.
Right about then my entire existence in this world was wickedly rocked.
My baby girl had a leech on her foot.
Did you hear me screaming?
'Cause I was.
(Ok, maybe internally.)
I couldn't just brush said leech off her foot, I had to pick it up and pull it off her foot where it was attached.
(More internal screaming.)
Did you get that?
It was ATTACHED to her foot.
(screaming.)
And I had to touch it.
(screaming.)

Let's just say that "tolerant mom" has taken a leave of absence.
She may never be back.
She has also renewed her resolve* to never swim in a lake ever.
Or an ocean.
*Stick finds it hilarious that I won't swim in lakes or (most of the time) the ocean, but I will happily swim in a pool. Stating that, "pools are full of all kinds of pee and poop germs and chemicals...." All I know is, I will NEVER get a leech stuck to me from a swimming pool. I rest my case.

But you might get a poop stuck to you! ha ha ha ha ha.
Btw, love the cute little flower on her toe. Much nicer than a leech. Ick!

That is gross and glad that you were brave to pull it off I would scream louder than you and not internally!!!!!

Leeches were a problem my first year at Girls Camp in GA since we swam in a lake. I wouldn't get in the lakes in MS for fear of alligators & water moccasins--much worse than leeches. Yick.
