weekly 2015.3.20

I sat down last night to write this weekly, but quickly got sucked into Prom dress shopping for the next three hours. Yes, Friday night Rachel got asked to go to Prom. The boy is Greg Memmott, maybe you’ve heard of him? He was in the news a year or two ago for earning ALL of the possible Boy Scout merit badges (138). Anywho, I thought a kid from our ward would surely ask her, but then this kid Greg did. They’ve known each other for years since he’s in all the honors classes with her. I guess at some point last week Rachel and Maddie (her future BYU roommate) were talking to Greg about Prom. He mentioned he was going to ask someone from Alta. The girls informed him in no uncertain terms that that was super lame and he should ask someone from CCHS. Preferably Bree, Rachel’s BFF from next door. Rachel really wants Bree to go to a dance before high school is over. So in a classic move straight from the hallowed halls of male/female communication, Greg asked Rachel. HA!

I’m just relieved we have a month to find a dress instead of three days (homecoming). And believe you me, it’s going to take a month, judging from last night. For being such an easy going girl in every aspect of her life, she has definite opinions about Prom dresses. Who knew! It can’t be poofy, colored, sparkly, sequiny, short, sleeveless, or tight. It can be black, grey or maybe navy blue. It must be long and straight, but not too tight/fitted. The skirt can be flowy but not too flowy. And it has to be modest, tall enough for a 5’9” girl, and um, how do I say this delicately, fit her less than ample bust line. I just got 14 new grey hairs just thinking about it.   Wish us luck.

In Rachel news that isn’t Prom related, she had no school on Friday so we went down to BYU and got a campus tour and also toured a dorm room at Helaman Halls. A super fun morning that made her feel overwhelmed (I think) and me feel really old.

Rebekah is thrilled that it’s finally summer! Even though it’s March. In Utah. I came home on Saturday to find her in the backyard in a swimsuit playing with the water hose. In March. In Utah. I’ve already pulled a few splinters out of her feet and she’s covered in bumps, scrapes and bruises from running around outside in shorts and no shoes. In March. In Utah. True, it’s been unseasonably warm but I think that ends after tomorrow. Who wants to tell her that it’s March in Utah and not summer?

Harry and Stick spent a long time on the Pine Wood Derby Saturday, after Stick got home from camping with the scouts. He had his heart set on a VW bus and they worked on it for hours, but finally realized it was going to be too heavy to work. So Harry picked a new design and they started over late that night. It’s a good thing Stick performs well under pressure. The Pine Wood derby is Wednesday night and there is not going to be a lot of time to finish the car between now and then.

Spencer spent a good chunk of Saturday at a birthday party in Pleasant Grove at the Space Center, which he loved so much.

Thomas and Aaron had their first club volleyball games Thursday night. They won their first set, but then lost their second set by one point. They were happy though because before the game they thought their team was terrible. Aaron also passed his Eagle Board of Review, but I’m going to blog about it, so I’m not going to elaborate here.

Friday night, we enjoyed a visit from the P. family, on their way home from spring break in St. George. Rachel and Aaron got a wild hair to go the stake dance at our church that night, but couldn’t convince the cousins to join them. Aaron lasted about 14 minutes before he walked home. Rachel and her friends had a grand time dancing with all the 14 year olds. Including one of Thomas’ friends who is only 13, but told the girls he’s a “Junior”. Ha! And the world’s shortest Junior at that.

It’s been a year now since I lost that 20lbs. and I’ve only gained about 2 lbs. back. This week I realized I may never get back into my old pants, so I bought two pairs of jeans that actually fit. It’s nice to not be swimming around in my jeans. I also spent the week dealing with tires. Ugh, I hate dealing with anything mechanical. We failed our safety & emissions on our beast because the tires needed to be replaced. So off to Costco I went. Then to Les Schwab to get an alignment, then back to Grease Monkey to get the new tires passed off. I had to laugh at Grease Monkey when three different employees came out to oogle our new tires. They told me to tell Stick that he picked awesome tires. Men=strange.

So prom dress, tires and pinewood derbies pretty much sum us up this week.
