winter no show and too much show on facetime
So did we have winter this year?
I remember lots of snow in December, lots. But I'm not even sure it's snowed since then.
Now, don't get me wrong, I am not a snow lover. In fact it's my least favorite thing about living here, but for some reason it feels like we didn't even have winter this year. The rest of the country has been buried in snow, "Polar Vortexes" and non-stop winter, while we've hardly had anything. My sister in law in Erie, PA has had 133 inches of snow this winter and it's still coming down.
I'm sure that we will still have some snow days, it is Spring in Utah after all, and spring snow is the norm. But spring snow usually melts before it even has to be shoveled.
It rained for most of the day yesterday, with about three snowflakes mixed in. And there might have been 42 seconds of hail. But the trees are starting to bloom and my tulips are coming up.
Speaking of my tulips, I've been grating Irish Spring soap around them so they won't be eaten by deer this year. So far so good. Although the neighbors are probably wondering why I'm out there every week with a cheese grater in one hand and a bar of green soap in the other. And who knows what the soap will do to the soil, but my tulips are still among the living and that's all that matters. Right?
So yeah, winter was pretty weak and now we are starting spring. Before we know it, it will be blazing hot and we'll be up to our elbows in weeds, I mean the garden.
Ug. I'm not ready.

In totally unrelated news, but news that needs to be recorded for posterity, I found Rebekah sitting on the toilet yesterday with my iPod in her hand, "facetimeing" with her cousins. (Boy cousins.)
Often when she can't find a neighborhood friend, I will let her facetime her cousins. They laugh and talk and show each other things around the house. This is what she was doing, when apparently the call of nature called.
And really, why hang up when you are having such a good time?
It's all in the family, right?
It must be nice to be five.
