weekly 2015.4.13
Rachel has been in Hawaii this week. We’ve missed her a lot. One of the boys said yesterday, “It feels like Rachel has been gone forever!” It’s strange because she’s been gone before at Girl’s Camp or visiting cousins, but this time feels different. I suppose it feels like a sign of things to come. It makes me think back to when I left for BYU. I don’t remember being particularly homesick, and honestly I don’t think I even thought about the fact that they could have been missing me at home.
Aaron is hot on the trail of used (battery operated) scooters. He got two for free from a friend and bought one yesterday at a garage sale. He’s ordered some parts from Amazon and has big plans to fix them up and sell them. He may have to combine the parts from all the various scooters to get one working scooter. He’s also been doing some more driving practice. He’s still doing a good job, but needs to trust himself more. We were out driving yesterday and almost got in a wreck that ironically wasn’t his fault. We were halfway through a round-about when some guy just about plowed into us. Right when it became apparent that the guy wasn’t stopping, I yelled, “AARON!” and he fortunately hit the brakes and not the gas. It took hours for my heart beat to get back to normal. Wouldn’t that be ironic for Aaron, the practicing driver, to get into a car wreck that wasn’t even his fault?
Thomas is busy growing. He needed new soccer cleats for his season that started yesterday. Have you seen his feet lately? Size 11 and wide as the Titanic. Have you seen a pair of soccer cleats lately? Imagine trying to stuff an extra-large watermelon into a banana. That’s about how successful our shopping was. In the end, one pair, the cheapest cheapo $20 specials, sort of worked. They were the widest of the choices, but not wide enough by any stretch of the imagination. I won’t even be surprised if in the next few weeks, Thomas goes to kick the ball in a game and his cleats explode upon impact.
Spencer spent the week slightly frustrated because all his friends on the face of the earth went out of town for spring break. The poor boy needs his social life and we are boring. Lucky for him, it’s back to school tomorrow! Six more weeks until summer vacation, can you believe it?
Harry had so much fun spending 24 hours with Grandma & Grandpa A. this week. He had a full agenda of things he wanted to do, and they patiently fulfilled all his dreams. He’s also been obsessed with obtaining a “Fit-Bit”. I told him he was 9 and didn’t need a $100+ pedometer. Then we remembered that Stick had an old pedometer and Harry has been happily wearing it for days, reporting his steps to me on a regular basis. I’m not exactly sure why he’s obsessed with his step count, but whatever. I can think of worse obsessions to have.
Rebekah spent spring break falling down, banging into things, getting scratched, bruised and bloody. She goes back to school tomorrow with all kinds of scabs to brag about. Today she came home from church happy because “everyone told me how cute I am!” Clearly, life can’t get any better.
