weekly 2015.5.11
I had a happy day yesterday. Sometimes I think these made up holidays are cheesy, but then again it’s nice to have a day to be appreciated and spoiled. Stick & I also celebrated 19 years together. Seriously though, the number 19 blows my mind. I’m grateful that after 19 years we still like each other and even still love each other. Stick is my favorite person ever. We are gifting ourselves new carpet to celebrate! Exciting no?
We attended the Best of State awards gala last night at the Salt Palace. It’s fun to have a night out on the town, but the B of S is about the goofiest thing ever. Tons of companies that submit applications and pay to be in the running, and then they all win and have a big ceremony. Just to give you an example, “Carl’s Jr” wins every year, and this year we laughed to see that “Maverik” won for the “best convenience food”. What a joke. But the food is good and the entertainment is usually great, so whatever, we keep going. If everyone wants to clap for themselves, what do we care? In other amusing B of S news, while Stick was trying to find a parking spot in the underground parking, the “parking guy” driving a golf cart, ran into Stick’s truck and scraped a bunch of paint off. Der. That should be fun to resolve.
This week has been rainy, every single day. I’ve enjoyed the dark wet days, but I’m ready for some sunshine now, it’s a good thing we don’t live in Seattle. “It rains nine months a year in Seattle.” Name that movie for ten points.
Rachel took one AP test last week, and has three more this week. Aaron also has one this week. The AP tests are about $100 each, so here’s to hoping that they pass and our $$ was worth it.
Thomas turned in his Eagle Scout paperwork, which was a huge relief. Now we just have to hope and pray that the papers can get processed quickly. It would be so great if he could get his eagle awarded at the same time as Aaron in early June. It won’t be the end of the world if it doesn’t happen, it would just be neat if they could both do it together.
Harry scored three goals in his game Thursday night, the high scorer for his team. Grandma came and watched him play in the windy cold weather. Then Grandma & Grandpa both watched Spencer play on Saturday in the pouring, pouring rain. They get definite points for grandkid spectating in miserable conditions this week.
Bekah is home today from school. We’ve had a little stomach bug going through the kids and I didn’t quite dare send her to school where they won’t always let you run to the toilet right when you need to. (This is possibly, TMI.) So she’s home cleaning her room. Let’s consider it homeschooling with a lesson on tidiness (and a bathroom nearby).
I helped out on Saturday with our Stake service project, the Days for Girls organization. Basically I serged flannel fabric for three hours straight. Which sounds boring, but it was fun to chat to the ladies sitting next to me and I enjoy helping out with this project. It’s a good reminder that while I have my challenges, things could certainly be worse. Our stake is going to work on it one day a month indefinitely and I’m going to try and be there each time to do my small part.
